John Schwab, PhD

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist treating individuals, couples and families with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, sexual concerns, and career challenges. I work to establish a place where people can disclose and pursue their most personal challenges openly and truthfully.

My overall orientation is interpersonal and psychodynamic but I utilize cognitive-behavioral, strategic and rational-emotive techniques as well as clinical hypnosis. Attachment theory is quite important to my work. I explore the effects of patient's relational dynamics on emotion, thought and mood. I work other healthcare professionals if medication is called for.

I am quite active and goal-oriented. I strongly believe in the part emotional expression and creativity play in psychological health---both within individuals and within relationships. I also specialize in work with couples; my doctoral research was in John Gottman's lab at the University of Washington.
