Dr. Stephen James Hobbs

Psychologist , PhD

(925) 336-3109
For 25 years, I have worked successfully with individuals, couples and families to help them improve the quality of their lives and relationships. I work with compassion, respect and humor to create a safe and trusting environment that allows clients to achieve their goals. Clients come to therapy with questions which include: how to deal with feelings of depression and anxiety, how to feel closer to their partners, how to parent more effectively, how to deal with a major loss, and how to improve self-esteem and build resilience and coping skills. Other specialty areas: divorce mediation, adolescents, parent coaching.
When facing a difficult challenge or a painful situation, we can feel overwhelmed and stuck. As a therapist, I listen carefully and empathically to clients with the confidence that through our work together, they can successfully confront and resolve problems.
I am practical, personal and active in my therapeutic work. I support clients in setting realistic goals and encourage them to start with small changes in their behaviors and/or thinking to achieve those goals. I believe that a client's small successes lead ultimately to larger life changes and to a greater sense of well-being.
