I am broadly trained and experienced, having practiced as a Clinical Psychologist for 37 years. I received a BA in Psychology from Stanford and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Yale, was Founding President of the Tidewater Academy of Clinical Psychologists, am a member of APA and the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. I have worked with individuals of all ages, couples and families. I practice Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia. Insurance plans accepted include Anthem, Tricare, CIGNA, Sentara/Optima, Medicare, and others. For more information go to my website: www.doctormulligan.com

Functioning much like a coach and family mediator, I strive to motivate, support and educate my clients to become more confident, happy and successful in their careers and relationships. Working together, my clients and I identify specific goals and develop a plan to realize these goals by changing dysfunctional thoughts, behaviors and emotions.

Cognitive (Multimodal)Behavior therapy is: SHORTER-TERM (12 sessions on average); HOLISTIC (concerned with the whole person: biological, psychological and cultural factors), ECLECTIC (many treatment methods); PRAGMATIC(results-oriented); HUMANISTIC (emphasizes conscious awareness and efforts to cope with the real world); and EDUCATIONAL (provides information; teaches clients better coping skills).

Taking the first step toward getting help is often the most difficult
