Ms. Janet Edlefsen

I have more than 30 years' experience as a specialist in the treatment of eating disorders. I've helped many people fully recover from eating problems,and move forward in their lives able to say "food just isn't an issue anymore." In addition, I work with: health concerns ranging from wellness and life balance to chronic and life-threatening illness; grief and loss; depression and anxiety; and life transitions, including moving or caring for elderly parents. I offer individual counseling to adults and older teens. My style is interactive, and I often provide feedback and guidance in making changes.

I work with all types of eating concerns, including bulimia, anorexia, binge eating, obesity. I advocate a non-dieting approach of mindful eating, helping a person develop a "normal relationship" with food.I also address body image, self-esteem, control, perfectionism. I have a strong background in health, fitness and nutrition.

I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches, and focus both on the present and practical, and on exploring deeper levels. In addition to talk therapy, I often recommend readings, journaling, visualization, mindfulness, and physical activity. My clients say they find me nurturing and supportive; insightful; and practical and straight-forward.
