Psychological growth and spiritual development are not dissimilar, but rather facets, which constitute the whole of who we are. My treatment approach is both "traditional" and "holistic" as I incorporate a psychoanalytic and behaviorally oriented knowledge base with 12-step philosophy, hypnosis, Gestalt techniques, Jungian psychology, and other diverse spiritual and creative vehicles. Areas of specialization encompass comprehensive treatment of addictive disorders, eating disorders, sexual abuse trauma, relationship issues, complex post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety disorders.
I adhere to a traditional psychodynamic approach, and incorporate hypnosis, creative arts, and spiritual perspectives, when it reflects the patients clinical needs and wants. When indicated, resources, such as bodywork, psychopharmacology, psychodrama groups, workshops, etc. are integrated into the treatment process. My love of, and involvement in the arts pre-disposes me to effectively process creative blocks and stagnation. It also lends itself to perceiving healing as a creative process, and accordingly, to access the creative resources within all of us that lead to actualization.
I believe that suffering, in stripping away illusions, unlocks those questions concerned with larger meaning. It is our greatest pain that may contain a deeper purpose. Therapist and patient enter into those places most feared for the purpose of healing through suffering, with the intent of actualizing wholeness. " There is only one Journey. Going inside yourself"- Rilke

What happens to the child trapped in an abusive corrupt world? How does the repetitive intrusion of terror and helplessness impact the traumatized child's development? In this six week psychodynamic, supportive, and educational group experience we will share personal traumatic life events from childhood, and explore their impact on one's identity formation, capacity for intimacy, and the courageous quest to find hope and meaning amid darkness and despair. All participants must be actively engaged in therapy with either Rev. Heller, or with another seasoned therapist for a minimum of one year. Full sustained remission from all addictive disorders is required. Cost: $360/six 90 min. sessions

Sistah Tribe is a collective of women and men committed to bringing therapeutic theater to the culturally under-served and disenfrachised. "Let the Phoenix Rise" is a play authored by Rev. Sheri Heller, LCSW and Laura Gosheff. It is Sistah Tribes intention to bring "Let the Phoenix Rise" to mainstream audiences, and disenfranchised, traumatized women and girls in the public sector. Sistah Tribe is afforded fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas. Read more about the Sistah Tribe Project in the June 2011 issue of Scene4 Magazine. http://www.scene4.com/0611/sheriheller0611.html

A pervasive theme and concern often occurs in my work with female clients, which pertains to the question; What hinders a woman in her quest to fulfill her intrinsic nature? Clearly, our relationship to our female power is influenced by many personal and cultural elements. Sexism, oppression, the media, and historical narratives with omit women's contributions, negatively impact a woman's ability to realize her callings. Yet courageous women challenge oppression, be it internal or external in nature. A collective of women dedicated to supporting the sacredness of full actualization and vitality can offer the necessary support and inspiration so that myriad forms of oppression can be consciously managed, and accordingly power can be freed up and given creative expression. This 90 minute bi-monthly group is designed to afford female solidarity and empowerment for women who are committed to manifesting personal potentials and life-affirming visions.
