“Reasons for starting therapy are many: shame, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, overwhelming feelings, or fear of going crazy. Sometimes it's just feeling unsafe in the world. Simply talking and having a therapist listen without judgement or an agenda can be transformative. I pay attention to thought patterns and distorted beliefs that influence us but are hidden from conscious awareness. The therapist must undergo therapy as well in order to limit blind spots (or unconscious collusion), so clients can feel safe and talk freely. My training required undergoing intensive personal and group psychotherapy before and during training.

I have a particular interest in shame, the sense that the self is defective, which makes us fear exposing this vulnerable, hidden part, and constricts expression of who we truly are. I help clients reduce their feelings of shame and increase their spontaneity. Working with shame also reduces anxiety.

I have studied Buddhism and its integration with psychotherapy; I use Buddhist ideas with clients who are interested in this. Ken Wilber's work and attachment theory also informs my practice. I enjoy working with clients of multicultural backgrounds; I have experience with clients of Chinese, Italian and Indian descent.”
