Dr. Kathleen M Ritter

I have been in practice for nearly 35 years and enjoy working with adults, both individually and as couples. My primary therapeutic focus is to assist people in navigating through the difficult periods in their lives. I specialize in couple relationship problems, depression and adjustment concerns, and sexual, spiritual, and sexual orientation/identity issues. To determine whether I am the most appropriate therapist, I always have a brief telephone conversation with prospective clients before scheduling an appointment. These conversations also help both of us to decide whether I am the best "match" for them, their concerns, and time availability.

I have co-authored three books, written over thirty book chapters and articles, served on five editorial boards, and made over 100 presentations to international and national professional organizations. Two divisions of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Specialists in Group Work have elected me as a Fellow.

Since I am Professor of Psychology and Coordinator of the University Counselor Training Clinic at CSU Bakersfield, I limit my counseling practice to daytimes on Thursdays and Fridays and some Mondays. Most of my clients pay directly for counseling services, but I am a provider for several insurance companies.
