My practice is very diverse because I like to work with a wide range of individuals and issues. I see people struggling with work and relationship problems, recovering from trauma, and dealing with anxiety and depression. I see adults and adolescents, both gay and straight. I believe therapy can be an exciting voyage of self-discovery and I am a witness and facilitator on that journey.

My approach is described in the book, Inner Strengths: Contemporary Psychotherapy and Hypnosis for Ego-Strengthening coauthored with Claire Frederick. In addition to talk therapy, I utilize clinical hypnosis, and EMDR when appropriate. I have hypnosis CDs for sale at www.HypnosisNetwork.com. and my personal website is www.drshirleymcneal.com.

Rather than work from any one theoretical orientation, I create interventions to match the specific needs of each unique individual, based on my forty years of accumulated knowlege and experience.
