Dr. Joe Guse

I'm a former comedian who entered the field of psychology after working as an entertainer in nursing homes, where I observed a strong relationship between laughter, resilience and healing. I've written 14 books detailing my experiences integrating laughter into my work, and firmly believe that we can all learn to incorporate more humor into our lives. Although we are confronted by grief, change, and loss, I also believe we have choices as to how we are going to respond to these things. I strive to help others incorporate humor into the way they make these emotional choices

I've done a lot of work helping people manage anxiety and depression. My approach stresses the idea that a great deal of therapy also takes place outside the therapeutic session. Homework is emphasized. My greatest wish is that my clients feel encouraged as well as understood.

I've appeared on TV a number of times, including on the AE Biography, "The Tragic Side of Comedy," as well as another upcoming AE episode on the "Forever 27" club. Please don't let money keep you from counseling. I will work with what you can afford.
