I am influenced by attachment theory and family systems theory as well as a history of working with trauma.
I believe that problems develop relationally and therefore it makes sense to solve them relationally: to seek resolution through genuine understanding is the work of therapy. In my experience, the relief that clients seek is contingent upon being seen as they are, and as they want to be seen, and feeling understood.

My orientation is focused on seeing an individual within the context of their family, their work, their community. I will be a compassionate listener. But therapy requires more than compassionate listening. To have effective therapy is to be challenged in the way we think, feel, and live. My clinical style is to find solutions while staying rooted in compassion and understanding. I specialize in working with college-age individuals and young professionals.

My specialties include helping parents/family members, young adults, and adults struggling to build independence, manage intense emotions, build meaningful relationships, and work towards life goals.
I am licensed in MA and NY. I am straightforward, helping clients achieve behavioral change towards living in line with their values and priorities. I provide treatment that is founded on evidence based principles, meaning that I base treatment on knowledge gleaned from research and science while allowing for flexibility to accommodate to the individuals with whom I work. I am trained in a variety of treatment modalities and work from within an acceptance based cognitive behavior therapy framework. Balancing acceptance of our experiences and channeling our strengths towards behavior change is, I find, the most useful path forward.

I often pair my interest in psychodynamic therapy with a focus on attachment and family systems.
How do we remain hopeful with so much uncertainty, inequality, and suffering in the world? How do we take care of ourselves while also supporting others? How do we practice compassion? How do we accept those parts of ourselves (and of others) that are so often judged by our society? These are some of the kinds of questions I often pose to clients as we explore how our individually-lived experiences, coupled with larger historic and systemic trends, often influence the ways we understand and feel about our lives. My work with clients is rooted in a greater commitment to social justice issues.

I specialize in treating trauma and relationship concerns. I support individuals with attachment trauma or painful past experiences that continue to impact their current lives, getting in the way of feeling grounded, connected, and vibrant. I also support couples, relationship partners, and adult family members to engage more effectively, sustainably, and lovingly with each other. I engage with clients as whole people and explore their concerns in the context of identities and experiences that matter to them. With that in mind, I invite them to build awareness and skills that will help them thrive rather than tread water.

My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Family Systems, and an Interpersonal Process approach to provide highly individualized psychotherapy services to my clients.
I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives.

Imagine feeling rested, optimistic about work and enjoying your time with family.
I help stressed out professional women who feel undervalued at work and taken advantage of at home regain their enthusiasm for life. Despite having achieved "success", they are anxious and hopeless, and their accomplishments feel hollow. When they first come to therapy, their self-esteem is at rock bottom, they feel misunderstood by friends, family, and colleagues. Others tell them to be grateful, which makes them feel guilty and alone. Stress keeps them up at night and they try to compensate by eating, drinking, shopping, etc. but it's a temporary fix. Their identity as a confident professional and caring family member is tanking.

Change and life transitions can be difficult and scary. You don't have to go through them alone. COVID has affected everyone and their emotions. We have all been challenged to live our lives differently. Are there more family members living at home? Has your job changed? Are your children learning virtually now? Do you have a family member in hospital or nursing home that you can't visit as often as you would like? You may find yourself anxious or depressed. Your self esteem may be wavering. You may feel lonely. You don't have to be alone with any of this. I can help.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
