Relationships can be difficult. Whether it is familial, romantic or platonic, each of us is the sum of all the experiences, communities, and cultures we have been involved in and around our entire lives. We often struggle to understand how to effectively communicate, as well as making and keeping connections.

Not accepting new clients
**I'M NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME.** Life can be challenging but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. My specialty is in working with the effects of unresolved trauma, including anxiety and depression. I incorporate a mind/body treatment approach combining somatic psychotherapy, yoga, and mindfulness all based on an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma. My hope is that I can help each person who chooses to work with me to feel empowered to become the conductor of their own journey rather than being at the mercy of past or present life circumstances.

The experiences of loss and disappointment that people don’t want to think about, remember, or talk about often come back to haunt them in their current lives. It is just those experiences that clients thought they had escaped and left behind in the past that ambush them at the most inopportune time, seemingly out of nowhere. I believe it is when people are able to confront the shame and guilt of their private phantoms, when they can understand and flesh out sufferings that have for too long been borne alone, that they may free themselves finally from the invisible loyalties that compel them to repeat the past. By uncovering and mourning the sources of despair and fatalism that had secretly pervaded their lives, clients can face the future with a greater sense of freedom and renewed hope for a better life.

Discussing the unresolved feelings of trauma is painful, but I assure you, in my space you are seen and heard. All parts of you, even the deeply wounded scars, are welcomed and nurtured. I come from a diverse culture and understand how hard it is to find a therapist that understands the nuances of your existence. If this speaks to you, allow me to guide you through your re-birth of this new life you deserve.

We spend more time with ourselves than anyone else, but do we truly understand ourselves? It is hard to be objective about your own behavior, and therefore, challenging to accurately identify personal factors that create negative cycles. These cycles can lead to everything from interpersonal problems to an overall lack of purpose or meaning in life.

I believe that we humans heal in the context of relationship and that therapy is the process in which we find our way to our whole selves. In the therapy room, I join with clients to co-create their unique path to wholeness by realizing their inherent strengths and utilizing them to developing a 'tool belt' of strategies for which to work through life's struggles. Together we orient to the client's inherent capacity to gain mastery of their own functioning from the lens of their truth.

Life can sometimes be challenging and painful. There are times when you need someone to talk to that’s objective, an outside source that’s compassionate and will not only listen but understand and “get it”.

Growing up, I did not know much about mental health and therapy until I was in my own crisis. I was greatly impacted by mental health stigma that has had such a big impact of my Latinx community, and my own experience. I understand stigma is something that many different communities may face, and I hope to help break down that stigma so people can openly receive the help they need. After reaching out for help myself, I was able to start living up to a better version of myself. Now I hope to provide similar hope to others.

I specialize in working with families, children, marriages/partnerships and adolescents. I am Gottman trained for couples counseling. I also EMDR trained. I employ a team approach that enhances existing supports and provides tools to assist with barriers. Throughout my twenty-five years of professional experience, I've had the great fortune to learn from the families, adolescents and adults who've placed their well being in my care. I believe in a mind body connection and holistic approach. Mind and body connections are vital to becoming a healthier individual both mentally and physically.

New availability! As of May 2024, Wednesdays at 1p and 3:15p - virtual only. Sometimes the hardest part of therapy is making the choice to begin. If you are here, you’re ready or at least thinking about starting this journey. Welcome and bring your curiosity! You don’t need to have answers when you come to therapy. You may not even know what the exact issues are. That’s okay. We will work in collaboration to find the path forward that benefits you most. There’s no “one size fits all” therapy so we may “try on” a few different things to see what works for you!

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
