James E Hord, Psychologist in Panama City
“Psychological evaluations and therapy constitute the majority of my office time. I focus on individual and couples work. I work with children and often work through their families to affect changes in their behavior. I have done a great deal of work with abused children and custody evaluations. I testify in court quite frequently.

“I use a common-sense approach when dealing with people and their issues. As a counselor, I am your advocate, not your judge. I want people to feel comfortable, glad they came, and better when they leave. We will explore problems, ways of coping, finding solutions to problems. I use a combination of approaches, based on my training and life experiences, to facilitate a positive outcome in solving life issues. I think you will find my approach comforting, as if you were talking to someone you have known for a long time. Give me a call, let's get started.

Bridging the Gap Recovery, Treatment Facility in Panama City Beach
“BTG uses a phased approach, with gradually increasing levels of freedom and responsibility. We do this by transitioning our clients through our different levels of care. Our clients are not just taught basic recovery tools, but must begin using them from the beginning, and increasingly so as they progress through the phases of their program. This treatment philosophy is obviously more evident in our residential program, but still plays a subtle role in our out-patient programs as well. If your client has already had some substance abuse treatment, you may be interested to know that our transitional phased approach is self-paced rather than time-dependent. We will work with other treatment providers to maintain a continuum of care based on the client's status in the different dimensions spelled out by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), and the unresolved issues in the clients' original treatment plan. Therefore, a client coming to BTG for long-term or follow-up care after completing a primary treatment program elsewhere, would more than likely start in Phase II or Phase III and likely progress through theses phases quicker than someone coming directly to BTG.

Leticia Freeland Grove, Counselor in Panama City Beach
“I approach mental health and personality from a holistic perspective. I consider multiple variables when working with clients including mental health, medical history, nutrition, exercise and environment. I would describe my theoretical orientation as eclectic. Eclecticism incorporates therapies from a number of different sources ranging from cognitive-behavioral approaches to alternative treatments such as mindfulness training and meditation. The therapeutic techniques that I use vary from client to client because what works for one person may not work for another. Moreover, I often use more than one therapeutic method depending on my clients' needs.

“There are many reasons why people seek counseling with me. Sometimes it's to deal with long-standing psychological issues with anxiety or depression. Other times it is in response to unexpected changes in one's life such as a divorce, a death or work transition. Therapy provides insight & new perspectives into life's challenges, creates solutions & confidence to make changes. I create a safe, warm, non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore their choices & emotions so they are able to gain insight, self-confidence & new coping skills in order to navigate life's obstacles more effectively. “These steps might help to chose a therapist. A reference from someone trusted, keep in mind they have their own biases. Check the State Licensing board for information about complaints or malpractice history. Ask about negotiating a self pay fee, avoiding insurance deductables and co-pays. Look for someone with more life experience than you, someone who is a parent, struggled with marriage or divorce, experienced with grief or their own parents aging, Request a consultation session and check for personal fit. Research proves that the relationship is the single most important factor in counseling success. lastly, listen to your conscience,

“Many men and women have inadvertently developed an unhealthy relationship to sex through various compulsive behaviors, one which leaves them feeling isolated, guilty, ashamed, and often anxious and depressed about their helplessness to control their behavior. This behavior invariably leads to lost time, lost money, lost relationships and loss of self-esteem. There is, however, an effective way out of this painful cycle. Whether you are the person with these compulsive behaviors or the significant other, I can help you find healing and recovery and help you to restore your relationship.
