Relationships and life transitions often involve loss, grief, and sadness. Emotional pain, moreover, often makes everyday life seem unbearable and exhausting. Outpatient counseling and psychotherapy - both marital and individual - can facilitate the relief of the sadness, confusion, and anxiety that are part of working through personal and relational stressors. The approaches and models in which I have been trained and educated - interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic therapies - are also informed by and infused with with the essential, humane and core qualities of empathy, understanding, warmth, and genuineness.
I treat couples and individuals. All couples become 'gridlocked," defensive, and frustrated. Men may 'stonewall,' while women pursue their concerns. I help couples by emphasizing 'repair' skills that enable them to de-escalate tension. Individual therapy, centered on anxiety, depression, and relational discord, can facilitate cognitive and behavioral change.
I believe that every human life has dignity, worth, and value, and that, with proper treatment, a 'facilitative environment' can be created in psychotherapy that allows healing and relief from suffering. I have an attunement to, and empathy for and sensitivity to the gender and cultural concerns of clients/patients.
