We each have a story to tell. Our stories shape our perceptions of the past and our feelings for the future. It is empowering when we can tell our stories. My approach is to recognize your strengths, honor your innate wisdom, and provide a place for you to tell your story in an atmosphere of warmth, understanding, and acceptance. Through this process you will find opportunities to gain insight and resolve difficulties, and may discover a renewed sense of purpose and meaning in your life. Therapy is a creative and collaborative process and one that I hope you will enjoy.

I help my clients understand the logic behind their emotions. Once they understand how their mind (logic) and heart (emotions) work, they are better able to use their new tools to reduce or stop depression, worries, pain, and relationship problems. Marriages improve and children behave better once these principles are put into place. They learn how to meet their needs in a healthier way and break the abusive cycles of behavior. I work with couples, families and individuals of all ages with a range of challenges including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, parenting and relationship issues.

I help people overcome, manage and find meaning in life’s challenges. It’s common to feel like you should just be able to “get over” hard emotional experiences. Rather than “getting over” whatever is causing pain, therapy can guide you to “go through” these experiences to gain more understanding, self-compassion and choice in how you move forward. My approach to therapy is multi-layered. I help you to develop a deeper relationship to yourself and to others. I also serve as a coach to help you change thoughts and behaviors that contribute to emotional suffering so you can feel more in control of the direction your life is heading.

I believe humans are resilient and striving to do their best. Yet at times we find ourselves struggling and unable to engage in our lives the way we would like. When this happens we might find ourselves experiencing distressing changes in our emotional functioning or engaging in behaviors that negatively impact ourselves and our relationships that are difficult to manage on our own. I am here to help you navigate these challenges and find ways out of the pain and discomfort by helping you discover your own internal resources, wisdom, and strengths to develop what a more meaningful life looks like to you.

I am an LCPC and RN. My therapy approach focuses on the body. The school of thought I practice from believes that when first faced with an overwhelming event, if unresolved, our body can hold onto the sensations of that initial reaction. A similar threat can recreate those physical sensations. Your body will then influence your emotions and beliefs as if you were back in that original moment. It's those times when your mind is telling you one thing, but your body is telling you something very different; I feel nervous but I don't know why. Somatic techniques can help link these making room for new insights and resolve.

I am currently taking new Clients. I believe that we are far more than what we present to others. Along the journey, we sometimes lose touch with our authentic self. This loss reveals itself in many ways: Dissatisfaction in relationships, Questions about career/vocation, Feelings of depression/anxiety, eating too much or too little, Lack of confidence, Uncertainty about life choices, Physical/emotional weariness, Spiritual confusion and Disillusionment. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University and additional intensive Masters Study in Human Relationships. My undergrad degree is in Education with emphasis in health: body, mind and spirit.

I am currently OUT of OFFICE until late MAY 2024. You often find yourself nauseous and wanting to cry when there is conflict in your life. You wish you could just hit pause on the world because it feels so overwhelming sometimes. You feel like people don’t understand you, or what you’re trying to say, and sometimes you don’t really understand yourself either. You notice feeling unheard or dismissed often. You want to have better relationships, less conflict, set boundaries, and understand yourself or your actions. You want stability and steadiness in a life or in relationships that feel rocky or confusing.

Hello, I'm a counselor intern and provide reduced fee counseling sessions. It can be challenging to start the counseling process, but so much good can come from sharing your experience and not holding it in. I try my best to provide a space that is nonjudgemental, where you can expect that I will listen, do my best to understand your perspective and work together to find solutions. Through this process, individuals are often able to understand themselves better and naturally begin to make changes in their life.

For many of us, it is hard to ask for help when we really need it. Many say that is due to a sense of pride or just plain stubbornness. Realizing we cannot move through the world alone is scary. It can be even more terrifying to be vulnerable with another person. Through that vulnerability comes growth, and watching my clients move through this process is my favorite part of the job. By building and fostering a therapeutic relationship we can help identify core problems, set goals, and find ways to help you be your best self.

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
