As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified psychoanalyst, I facilitate my clients' efforts toward self-reflection, help them gain a clearer understanding of their life experiences, and bring awareness to their patterns of relating. Although I am also trained in CBT, my orientation is primarily psychodynamic; it promotes self-exploration and insight, along with productive behavior change. I take an active and engaged role with my clients by asking questions, offering alternative perspectives, and suggesting new ways of thinking about issues that may be getting in the way of living a more satisfying life.
I approach therapy as a collaborative process, with the goal of reducing painful experience, increasing self-understanding, and developing deeper and more satisfying relationships in order to live a life of vitality and meaning. I specialize in addressing life and career transitions, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
In addition to psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, I conduct writing consultations for writers struggling with writer's block and/or organizational and time management issues, and for aspiring writers seeking publication. I assist doctoral students in dealing with academic challenges, the job application process, and problems with completing the dissertation.
