**As of January 1, 2024: I am accepting new clients. I'm fortunate that I figured out that I wanted to help others when I was 19-- I just knew this career was for me. My approach is pro-active & encouraging. I'm not here to judge you. We'll examine your thinking patterns and practice skills to reduce uncomfortable feelings. For anxiety, I'll help you face worries gradually to set you up for success. Your accomplishments are mine too. Since emotional issues often impact relationships, I offer family sessions to increase family cohesiveness.

I offer a therapeutic experience that aligns with core values. I am passionate about working with teens, adult individuals and families who are motivated to address pain that may be dictating their lives and sense of self. I want to help you work through that pain together to reveal strengths, values and inner wisdom that can empower you to feel that your best self is dictating your life instead of the problem saturated one.

My goal is to help patients increase self-awareness, increase coping skills to manage symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Most importantly, I provide a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment in which patients can explore their symptoms, feelings, and life difficulties. By working together through the therapeutic process, I guide patients into a path of self-discovery and empowerment to develop into healthy and whole individuals. I believe that experiencing hardships can be seen as an invitation to learn more about ourselves and evolve in our life journey to reach our highest potential.

We see you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and disconnected from your emotions. You're simultaneously worried about the state of the world and paralyzed from information overload. We see our kids struggling with feelings of insecurity and perfectionism, compounded by the stress of social media and looming fears about the future. We want to help you find more calm and greater peace through a deeper understanding of yourself.

I am a compassionate, empathic, caring professional who provides a secure and safe environment for you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Whether you are in crisis, or want to focus on personal growth, I can help you uncover and discover what is most important to you and improve the quality of your life.

My style as a therapist is both affirmative and challenging. I seek to support and understand you so that we may together identify the obstacles that keep you from living a more fulfilling and creative life. Therapy often involves the following processes: Changing reactive patterns of behavior, like compulsive eating or the destructive use of anger. Learning about your "filters," which are habitual ways of interpreting life events that stem from your unique conditioning. Developing skills to modulate uncomfortable feelings, such as anxiety or sadness. Strengthening your core sense of self and values.

In the tapestry of life, there are moments when one feels adrift, questioning the very core of their existence. My ideal client is not just seeking a service; they are on a profound journey of self-discovery, a quest to unravel the layers of their identity and purpose. My ideal client apse for more than just superficial change- they crave a transformation that goes to the roots. Their goals extend beyond tangible; they are in pursuit of a life that aligns with their authentic self. It's not nearly about reaching a destination, but about the profound journey that shapes them along the way. Together, we embark on a journey of meaning.

I tailor my treatment to the specific needs of each client. I work at establishing a therapeutic alliance so that clients become more able to observe, assess and reflect on their emotions and symptoms, gaining awareness to their true feelings. Results are achieved in a collaberative atmosphere of emotional safety, trust and unconditional acceptance that leads to understanding and healing. Changes brought about by this treatment are not meant to be temporary, but tend to be permanent. I work with adults, adolescents and couples who seek to resolve conflicts, stop repetitive dysfunctional patterns and develop deep emotional connections.

Our experiences can lead us to struggle with difficult feelings interfering with how we want to live our lives. We can have difficulty in relationships, feel unsure about who we are or what we want, or feel stuck and find it difficult to move forward. People typically seek out therapy to live a happier, more fulfilled life, or feel better in the relationships they have with others. Therapy can help you develop a better understanding of yourself, understand why you feel how you feel, learn how to cope with difficult or overwhelming feelings, and how to move forward.

You are committed to feeling better, you've tried everything, but still you feel lost in the pain. You've always been able to "fix" things in your life, why not this? This time, you feel stuck. Maybe you feel gripped by anxiety or panic. Maybe you feel consumed by grief from trauma or loss of a person, pet, or life dream. Maybe you're finding yourself in new life circumstances (a significant health challenge, life milestone, career or relationship change) and wonder "who am I now"? Life has a way of challenging us. There is a way through.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Sacramento?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
