The clients I treat in therapy are approximately 50% couples and 50% individuals. I have 24 years of experience as a therapist. The extraordinary change I see in my clients arises out of a combination of their openness to change, and my skills in helping them sort out what the actual problem is, as that can vary widely from person to person.
I see significant changes happen with the combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnotherapy/guided imagery when a person is stuck in old habits. This especially comes into play with Clinical Depression, a thought disorder which is socially "contagious", meaning that it affects everyone closely associated with the depressed person.
