I've enjoyed working with children, teens, families, and adults for over 20 years. I am a seasoned clinician who relates well with teenagers and is supportive of the needs of parents and families. My approach is authentic and comforting, as well as practical and goal-oriented. My clinical experience includes treating individuals with ADHD, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, school avoidance, children adjusting to the divorce of parents, and the transition to college or emerging adulthood. I am well-versed in multiple treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), biblio-therapy, and trauma focused CBT.

Anxiety and depression are concerns for people of all ages and frequently contribute to feelings of stress. I work closely with individuals whose struggles are getting in the way of developing safe, loving relationships and achieving objectives as well as those who are facing major life transition and feeling overwhelmed. Providing a warm, supportive relationship, I work with clients to identify and change patterns of behavior that are troubling them. For all of us, within the context of major stressors and recent or distant traumas, opportunities are present for identifying and building on our strengths.

We all carry around a metaphorical bag of stuff with us. That bag is filled with our thoughts, feelings, experiences; everything that makes us who we are. In therapy, we unpack your bag together. We explore each item, get curious about it. How did that item get in the bag? What is the impact of carrying it around with you? Together, we make meaning of your items. Some items you will decide are essential. Others are weighing you down, and preventing you from being your authentic self. I help you decide what you want to do with those items and, together, we figure out how to do it.

Feeling heard -- with thoughtfulness and curiosity -- and being challenged, helps you develop insight and strategies for life changes. Patients tell me they appreciate the rewards of our collaborative process, and their lives show the benefits. Together, we will explore your life, deciphering your concerns and building upon your strengths. We will look at anxious, dark or self-critical thoughts that may be the source of problematic behaviors, and identify patterns and solutions. We will work together to help you achieve happiness and success. Of note, I was voted as one of the areas' best therapists in the Washingtonian Magazine.

Life is lived in the intersection where intentions and outcomes are determined by our actions. We are happy when our intentions match our outcomes... but when they do not, we can feel stressed, anxious, depressed, disappointed or even desperate. At such moments, it is helpful to speak to someone that can help us feel understood and find the courage to power forward.

Upon entering each new developmental phase of our lives, there is often a momentary pause, an unsettling of the ship as we adjust to new demands, challenges and desires (and this is true no matter our age). Perhaps the Terrible Twos, Tween or Teen years have hit? Could it be that your child is struggling at school and you'd like to support him or her to feel better and have more success? Maybe you are an adult who is feeling overwhelmed by stress and the demands of life. These moments are great opportunities for growth and I believe I can help.

NOT accepting new clients. If you've said to yourself, "I can't keep living like this. Something has to change," we can help you make that change. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck, anxious and worried; if you're working through gender and sexuality and feel alone and confused; if you're curious about or ready to quit drinking/using, overly critical of yourself and others; if you're sick of putting others before you, paralyzed by perfectionism, and are losing yourself while people-pleasing the world - then notice the voice inside saying, "Something has to change.” If you answer "yes" to any of these, reach out below.

The most immediate benefit of one-on-one work is that it pulls you out of the automaticity of life. It is only when we choose to step out of our regular schedules, that we are able to reflect, assess, reorient, plan, and finally pivot. Whether you are experiencing a lack of motivation, crying spells, racing thoughts, and/or other symptoms of stress, depression, or anxiety - I will support you through this period. Although I am trained in a number of therapy modalities, my initial focus is to understand your experiences at the present moment.

I will serve as a guide as you work through grief, anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, and challenging relationships. In time, you will learn to turn toward the vulnerable, sad, angry, and fearful parts of yourself so you can feel grounded and calm, even in difficult situations. When working with couples, I take a balanced, non-judgmental approach to make space for each partner’s voice and perspective. Through our work, couples can reconnect, interrupt frustrating and ineffective communication patterns, process grief or infidelity, and learn to turn toward one another with empathy and curiosity.

Do you struggle with relationships, in particular the consequences of those relationships? My work begins with a very person-centered approach, recognizing my role as one to listen and empower a client as they create the life they want to live. I often incorporate techniques from solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioral, and dialectical behavioral approaches. After 10 years in the fitness/wellness industry, I’ve worked with those struggling with unhealthy relationships with food and their bodies. Working with these clients often utilizes elements of mindfulness and self-compassion toward a life of more self-love.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Washington?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
