Welcome! I believe it takes an incredible amount of courage to begin this journey of healing. I know seeking therapy can be difficult and it can be hard to venture into the unknown. I’m honored to be a part of this process. Often I have seen individuals seek therapy when they feel hopeless and cannot see through the darkness that things can be different. Through therapy I aim to reveal hope again and walk alongside you as we find the light together. I truly love what I do as a therapist and feel humbled to witness the bravery in others every day to take steps to live more fully.

HELLO! I am a licensed professional counselor. As we all know too well, life can be completely unpredictable! I say control the controllables and by that I mean your well-being and mental health. At times you just want to be heard and that is exactly what I provide. I am along for the ride, but keep in mind you are in the driver's seat and ultimately only you can pick your final destination. I truly believe in the power of the 'here and now' and believe that you can consciously make efforts to reach happiness, whatever that happiness may look like for you. I have been a counselor for a little over 5 years now.

I'm especially passionate about working with people needing both pregnancy and perinatal mental health support with a specific interest in postpartum mood disorders. Parenthood is both a monumental and overwhelming part of life and I enjoy offering support and validation throughout the complicated and oftentimes arduous journey. In addition to my specialty in women's issues, I also have extensive experience treating adults with anxiety, depression, psychological trauma such as intimate partner violence as well as individuals experiencing difficult life transitions.

Welcome to my practice. I thoroughly enjoy my work and thrive in helping people develop healthy, productive, and satisfying lives and relationships. I strive to create a welcoming environment where children, adolescents and adults feel comfortable exploring ways to achieve their goals. Research has shown that one of the most important aspects of change in therapy lies within the therapeutic relationship, so the benefits received from therapy are directly related to feelings of comfort and connection with a therapist. I consider my role as a therapist to be a privilege and will work to ensure you receive services best suited for you.

I offer an environment where motivated couples and individuals are able to freely express themselves, while gaining insight into their lives. I have a particular interest in working with people experiencing a Cancer Diagnosis, including partners, family members and caregivers. I am willing to help process the complicated emotions and feelings accompanying this illness.

I’m a social worker and like to help clients look at the world and their struggles through their own individual lens as well as bigger systemic perspectives. I believe community, nature (and humor!) are very important healing tools that reinforce and support DBT and RODBT work. I focus on supporting clients by meeting them where they are and honoring that they are the experts in their own lives. I love helping people find their own strength and healing abilities using DBT skills and nervous system regulation. I have a background in comedy, theater and creative writing and I think that influences my therapy style.

I work with human beings who have human struggles, pain, and imperfections. I love helping people re-connect to their inner selves so that they can get clearer on their needs, feelings, and bodily cues, which inform everything we do. Do you find yourself in the role of helper, caretaker, or even people pleaser, struggling with anxiety, depression, or paralysis? Do you want to explore your patterns, or why you get so stuck in your head with doubt, guilt, or shame? If so, entering into a therapeutic relationship where you do not have to be alone and can be witnessed and held with warmth and care can really help.

Depression is often overwhelming. It drains us of our energy, makes the world seem bleak and hopeless, and removes the pleasure, joy, and meaning from life. When we are depressed simple things are difficult, like getting out of bed, going to work, or simply being with others. Depression erodes our self-esteem and we often end up disliking ourselves and others, and we just want to hide away. Often these symptoms of depression cause even more depression – our withdrawal into ourselves leads to performance difficulties at school and work, and it isolates us from the very people we love and who love us.

Making the decision to begin counseling can be difficult and finding a therapist that is a good match can be equally overwhelming. I work to create a comfortable, safe, and supportive environment to make it easier to start the process. Everyone enters therapy at a different place, and I work to meet clients where they are. My approach is primarily relational because the quality of the client-therapist relationship can serve as the catalyst for change.

Relationships are vital to our existence, but sometimes we struggle to connect with ourselves and others in a way that supports our values and sustains the relationships that bring love, success, and connection into our lives. Whether you are struggling to connect with a romantic partner, or you've become so debilitated by anxious, self-defeating thoughts that social interaction feels impossible, I believe you have the power within you to change the way you connect to yourself and others. If sexual, emotional, or other barriers are stopping you from living the life you want, let me help you harness your inner strength.

We live in a time where life is hard, complicated and we are being inundated with information. In our society we've been taught to push our feelings down, discount bad experiences and pretend we're fine. I aim to show up for my clients when they realize they want to feel more than "fine" and feel ready to explore any trauma or hardships they feel may be holding them back from their authentic selves. We aren't meant to do life alone and the therapeutic connection is a first step toward healing.

The ideal client is one who is a collaborative individual wanting to tackle issues pertaining to motivation, anxiety control, overthinking, and feeling in control, this may involve existential questioning (LGBTQIA+). I imagine the clients goals to be more in control of themselves and to understand how their specific situation affects their day-to-day lives. This ideal client would want to collaboratively work together to tackle their various issues because they find it difficult to find time and focus on the here and now.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
