About Chaddock

Chaddock was founded as a ministry of the United Methodist Church in 1853 and has a legacy of more than 150 years of serving children. Today, the Chaddock team includes in excess of 200 highly trained employees who serve thousands of children and families every year through community, educational and residential services.Licensed, accredited and nationally respected, Chaddock is on the cutting edge of trauma-focused residential treatment demonstrating excellent results through the Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program (DTAP) for children, ages 8 to 16, who have experienced severe abuse, neglect, or other trauma in their early years of development. In addition to DTAP, Chaddock serves children, ages 16 to 21 through traditional residential, group home and independent living programs. Chaddock is a member of the NCTSN, whose mission is to improve the quality, effectiveness and availability of services for children and families who experience traumatic events. Through Family Solutions, Chaddock offers Outpatient Therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Chaddock's Caregiver Connections offers training and support to small child and infant caregivers throughout the state of Illinois. Foster care and adoption services and an on-site special education school round out Chaddock's offerings.

The Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program is a highly structured, attachment-based residential program focusing on empathic attunement in a nurturing environment. In addition to cottage interactions, youth in the program may attend an accredited on-site special education school, and have supervised access to recreational and campus activities on Chaddock's 30-acre campus. The youth receive individualized therapy, regular family therapy and psychiatric services as needed. A variety of evidence-based trauma therapy techniques are incorporated into treatment including structured psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Additionally Chaddock's program is based on Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy principles and utlizes Theraplay along with sensory interventions to meet youth needs. Cottage staff actively participate in clients' lives, including involvement in therapy sessions, to engage the youth in a close relationship. The staff/client relationship is a key component of the milieu, giving clients the experience and skills to develop and sustain a relationship with family members.
Parents are expected to visit the program on a regular basis and participate in family therapy sessions. Education and information will be provided to parents throughout the average 18 - 24 month stay in the program to allow them to develop new skills and techniques as their child progresses through treatment. A core treatment team comprised of a client's therapist, cottage manager, teacher and family services coordinator meets on a weekly basis and develops an individualized treatment plan for each child. Chaddock is affiliated with The United Methodist Church, and spiritual growth and development opportunities are coordinated by the agency Chaplain. Clients also have the opportunity to participate in a range of community service learning activities to further emphasize the impact of reciprocal relationships beyond their immediate family members.
