Here’s what I believe: it can be really scary to get in touch with our emotions and needs, but when we avoid them, it wreaks havoc on our lives. We lash out, people please, numb out, run away, dissociate, or sometimes completely shut down. There comes a point, however, when we decide we want more out of life, and know it's time for change. Perhaps you’re at that point right now. If so, I want to offer you a warm welcome. In our work together, I will honor your resilience, hold your darkness with reverence and celebrate progress and possibility with you. We all need support sometime - we weren't build to do this alone.

If you're struggling with OCD or anxiety, you’re in the right place. I'm a trauma-informed psychotherapist specializing in OCD and anxiety-related disorders, and there are few things I love more than helping others find the relief they deserve. I have dedicated the entirety of my practice to treating anxiety, and primarily work with OCD, hoarding, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and eating disorders. I also specialize in supporting individuals with complex trauma histories, especially those who have experienced sexual trauma, familial trauma, and exposure to violence.

For a long time, you have tried to "hold it together." Perhaps, you may have prided yourself in your ability to power through challenging circumstances. You have finally reached your limit and the stress has taken its toll. I tell clients to think of therapy as a navigation system. You put the destination in the GPS and the GPS guides you in the right direction. Think of me as your guide. My clients are free to choose their destination. We may take detours, and pit-stops, but we will safely, reach those destinations. It is your turn to rise. RISE from overwhelming feelings, depression, loneliness, anger, self doubt and choose YOU!

Are you feeling stuck or unsatisfied in your relationships? Do you feel like you have a hard time connecting with the people in your life? Maybe you feel overwhelmed or like you’re just going through the motions to get by? Or perhaps you want to feel more alive and energized but are afraid of being rejected or abandoned? The capacity for emotional growth and transformation lies within each of us and I believe this begins with the healing power of authentic human relationships. It is only when we feel safe that we can begin to transform our pain.

I became a social worker after being a teacher for several years as an outgrowth of real desire to help my students on a psycho-emotional level after seeing the struggles they had at school. However, that script was flipped completely once I began working in an outpatient setting where I found that my real skill is talk therapy! Clients come to me when they want to work on anxiety, depression, relationships, OCD and grief. I strongly believe that my clients will feel better with the power of evidence based treatments via concrete skill building, insight development and analysis.

What would it be like to see yourself more clearly? If you struggle with old emotional patterns, it may show up now in all kinds of ways! You may be feeling like you're not "enough," finding it difficult to make room for life outside of you being the overachiever, or just not knowing who you actually are. These conflicts may also show up in your body, as well as in the way you treat it. Maybe you have headaches, chronic lower back pain, difficulty nourishing yourself, or have a fraught relationship with how you look. We collaborate and figure out how to make you an active participant in your healing and get you back in your life.

Collaborative by nature, I aim to provide a caring and safe space where you feel validated, valued, and are open to explore new parts of yourself. My understanding of personal change and growth is grounded in both psychodynamic and systems theories. Together, we focus on how some of your early history may inform your present challenges while also acknowledging the impact of the familial, institutional, and cultural systems in which you live. In addition, I believe that a consistent sense of curiosity and authentic presence with you, where multiple meanings can be explored, is paramount to growth-promoting and healing therapy.

I believe that each client is the expert on their own life and it's my job to find them the right tools. In my practice the most important task I undertake is empowering my clients. Work, relationships, mental health issues and life in general are extremely difficult to cope with and above all, people need to hear that their feelings about these areas are real. After all, this is what guides people to what's most important in life. In order to do this I provide a trusting, non-judgmental, and empathetic therapeutic relationship.

Let's face it, life can be difficult. Sometimes emotions and circumstances feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a way to untangle your feelings and behaviors, offering the relief and distance needed to make sense of whatever is the matter, and process getting out from under it. As a therapist, I am active and engaged. We will collaborate to explore what's most distressing, and how best to resolve what is in your way, (whether emotional, relational, historical, professional,) to ultimately make meaningful, lasting changes that will allow you to feel invigorated and motivated to have the life you want and deserve.

Often when clients begin the process of looking for a therapist, they find themselves in a place where something is no longer working for them. This place can be overwhelming, and they may feel stuck or hopeless but can’t always pinpoint the reason. As their therapist, I provide a safe space to listen to their story and explore what brought them in. Through the work of therapy, clients begin to discover the roots of their patterns and behaviors and how they can be reworked over time. I work with individuals going through life transitions whose struggles include relationship issues, anxiety, depression and trauma.

Most of my clients feel that anxiety has consumed their whole lives. They are physically & emotionally drained but still crave meaningful relationships. They also identify as perfectionistic, depressed, and lonely. They are highly creative, an overachiever or an over-procrastinator, and an emotional sponge. Since they feel so deeply, they tend to feel ashamed of their emotions and work towards being extroverted and capitalistic-hungry individuals.

To those considering beginning their therapy journey, I understand it can feel like a daunting commitment. It is my mission to create a meaningful, interesting and collaborative environment that meets a client where they are and shows them that they have the capacity for meaningful change. Shift in perspective is crucial to an evolving sense of self. I believe in the power of culture, myth, laughter and metaphor to explore a client's issues. I draw from Jungian, Humanistic and Existential theory and believe therapy is a creative as well as healing enterprise.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Brooklyn?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
