I have a small, confidential neighborhood practice that is warm and intimate. I help clients with both symptom/personal distress reduction as well as personal/relational growth. My metaphor for therapy is that it is a journey, but not my journey. It is my client's journey and I am their trusted guide. My clients figure out the destination and I help them get there. Besides a witness to their journey, I help them navigate the terrain in a safe, efficient manner, pointing out important things they are missing along the way. I listen carefully.
As fellow journeyman and guide, it is important that I am in their shoes but also outside of them enough to have objectivity and the willingness to be a good "President's Advisor," one willing to tell my clients what they need hear instead of what they want to hear.
I am successful with the majority of individuals, couples, groups, and families who seriously invest in the therapy process. As in all good therapies a solid working alliance and technical flexibility are key. Besides therapy, I also offer formal psychological testing if needed (ADHD, differential diagnosis, IQ, personality, etc.).

Dr. Christopher Garner also hosts the following groups:
2333 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Every Monday at 6pm - 7:30pm
$50 - $50 per session
This psychotherapy group is designed to create a confidential and intimate community in which people can explore personal growth and relationships. Not alone in their struggles, members support and empathize with each other as well as confront each other in healthy and inspiring ways. Members are often in a journey together. Group work is a powerful/synergistic adjunct to individual therapy and a valid treatment in its own right. Group can be the "beta test" for a better life. (New members are screened/known by Dr. Garner. Please call if interested).

$50 - $60 per session
Dr. Garner is looking to start another therapy group. Most people are hesitant about joining a therapy group. In my experience, however, only rarely are they disappointed. Their presenting problems get better over time and they grow emotionally and do better in all kinds of other groups and relationships.

Social anxiety/phobia? Dr. Garner knows a way out. All mammals are hard-wired for attachment. Yet, humans are cursed with the blessing for the capacity to think. Our nervous system can also misfire, reacting like we are running from a bear in a forest when no real danger is present...
