People are best treated in a relaxed, comfortable environment with a knowledgeable and caring therapist. I am a well-trained, experienced psychotherapist with a prior background in nursing. My nursing training has given me not only a dedication to caring for patients but also a working knowledge of different medical problems and how they can seriously disrupt a person's life. In treating my patients, I have expertise and training in a number of different approaches, including individual, family, and couples therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
These skills help my patients maximize their strengths.
Having training in stress management, I treat individuals who have been traumatized: either as children in a dysfunctional family, exposed to substance abuse or emotional or physical abuse; or as adults following emotional stresses such as accidents or physical attacks (PTSD). Many patients benefit from both talk therapy and EMDR.
As a certified family therapist, I am aware of the impact of emotional upheaval on the patient in my office, and also on the environment in which that person lives. My extensive experience in dealing with trauma led to an invitation to speak on radio station WKTU days after 9/11.
