“Relationship problems? Sexual difficulties? Concerned about someone's drinking or drug use? Your own? Other problems of adolescents or adults? Therapy CAN help, and things CAN get better. Most people are not neutral about their therapist: either they are liked and remembered, or clients leave unhappy, sometimes angry that the therapist didn't understand, care, or help. Choosing your therapist is very important. You may even want to interview two or three therapists before starting therapy. Most clients, especially couples, want quick relief. That's my focus: the average client sees me eight sessions, though many stay longer.

A therapist is first a listener, working to undersand you, what you say, and how you feel. You'll know if they get it. If not, tell them. Second, therapy should be evidence-based. Therapy must work; if not, it's a waste. Ask whether the therapy is proven to work.

I deal with general problems of teens and adults. Couples come to decide their future or work on a specific problem, including sexual issues. My background and experience in chemical dependency is extensive, and people see me for evaluation, treatment, and continuing issues of recovery.”
