Mrs. Doris V Obenshain

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the State of Delaware. As a pastoral counselor, my approach focuses not only upon a clinical understanding of emotional distress, but encompasses as well an invitation to the integration of psychology and spirituality in the treatment of mental health issues. My commitment is to provide a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere in which each individual can change and grow toward personal goals and the fullness of his/her potential. I specialize in depressive and anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties, supporting recovery from substance use disorders, and spiritual and personal growth.

A significant number of my clients express a preference to be able to draw on their spiritual values and beliefs in addition to a clinical perspective in addressing their current distress. I welcome persons of any spiritual persuasion as well as those who profess no religious affiliation.

I work primarily with adults,late adolescents and couples My clinical approach is based largely on cognitive-behavioral theory (how thinking affects mood and behavior) and family systems theory (how patterns in one's famly of origin affect current beliefs/behaviors/relationships. I also provide coaching in relationship skills.
