Dorothy T Mitchell

I am a caring, creative and compassionate family therapist who believes that each person who walks through my door is unique and has his/her own special gifts and strengths. I believe every person learns a set of survival skills as a child growing up in his/her family of origin. Often those same skills are relied upon in other relationships when they are no longer needed. I tailor my therapy to meet the needs of my clients and I strive to help clients discover their inner strengths and gifts as they work through their difficulties.

My professional strengths include teaching experience with young children through adults. My practice involves individuals, couples, children and families focusing on relationship issues, parenting concerns, anxiety, stress, abuse and trauma. I think of my clients in terms of family dynamics and what is brought into current relationships from past relationships,

In conjunction with talk therapy, I use art, play and sandtray therapy in my work. Sandtray therapy is an excellent vehicle for processing emotions which are difficult to verbalize and for easing anxiety and healing trauma. I use it with children, adults and couples.
