Ms. Edythe Held Mencher

I have 25+ years of psychotherapy experience with adults and children addressing depression, anxiety, emotional impact of chronic illness, relationship issues, trauma and loss. My approach to psychotherapy integrates psychodynamic, dialectical-behavioral, family therapy and play therapy approaches, dependent upon the needs, age and goals of the individual. I believe deeply that therapy is a collaborative effort dependent upon an maintaining a therapeutic atmosphere of respect, acceptance, empathy and integrity. My work includes cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness approaches so that enhanced recognition of emotions is matched by a sense of being able to achieve a sense of control and calmness.

A graduate and member of the faculty of the Westchester Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, I have also have served on the Faculty of New York Hospital Child and Adolescent Division.

Because I am also an ordained liberal rabbi I have experience working with many life cycle issues: infertility, adoption, serious illness, relationships among people of different faiths and ethnicity, ethical decision making, pre-marital and marital counseling, bereavement, end of life decisions,spirituality, GLBT acceptance
