I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families and groups to identify and define the problems you want to address in treatment in a collaborative and supportive manner. Together we design and develop goals to resolve problems while increasing problem solving skills, creativity, resiliency and hope. Sometimes words get in the way of treatment and can not adequately express our feelings and thoughts. I am able to utilize my expertise and experience as an art therapist to address those issues and emotions that lie beneath the surface through the creative process, in a gentle and non-threatening manner.
I have worked with children, adolescents and their families in a variety of mental health settings, and in schools, as a clinician, supervisor and administrator. I am very familiar with school issues, the special education process and the behaviors and concerns that can interfere with a student's success.
I am a practicing artist, writer and supervisor for other mental health professionals specializing in the creative arts therapies. I am also a thesis advisor for Pratt Institute and recently published an article on my work with children who have experienced trauma in the American Art Therapy Association 2011 newsletter.
