I have been providing psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adolescents and adults since 1988. I received my doctorate at Smith College and spent twenty-one years practicing in Chicago (before moving to Vermont in 2008). I am on the faculty of the Institute for Clinical Social Work (Chicago) where I teach psychoanalytic theory and therapeutic process to Ph.D. candidates. I am the Chair of the Committee on Social Responsibility for the American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work, which focuses on bridging a global justice discourse with psychoanalysis. I also conduct asylum evaluations for Physicians for Human Rights.

I typically begin by meeting with a new patient a few times for an initial consultation. My work is psychoanalytic, which means I attend to feelings/beliefs that emerge from one's lived experience/history and that interfere with living fully, creatively, and freely in the present.

I work strictly on a sliding scale fee basis and am devoted to a process that is confidential and protected from third party interference. Towards that end I do not participate in insurance. I often see patients more than once per week and am committed to fee arrangements that make possible a meaningful therapeutic experience.

Taking the first step toward getting help is often the most difficult
