Dr. Larry E Dumka

I work with INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES, and FAMILIES experiencing distress and relationship difficulties. I use approaches that scientific research has found to be effective. With INDIVIDUALS experiencing anxiety, depression, addictions, or just feeling stuck, I tend to use methods drawn from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I help people clarify what they really want, understand the barriers they are experiencing, access their own and other resources, and take steps towards their valued life directions. Much of my practice focuses on helping COUPLES address the future of their relationship, reduce hurtful conflict, increase emotional and sexual intimacy, and cope effectively with life's stresses.

I treat couples who are coping with difficult life circumstances, experiencing infidelity, preparing for marriage, or adjusting to separation and divorce. My methods are drawn mostly from Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. I first make sure that I understand each partner's concerns and hopes for the relationship.

I then encourage and support partners as they strive for a satisfying balance between increased acceptance and needed change. FAMILIES consult me when there are difficulties with children's or other family members' behavior. I am also consulted by those who want to integrate their Christian faith with their therapy.
