Our life experiences, whether they are complicated (as in divorce or chronic illness), or traumatic (as with physically or emotionally violent situations), deeply effect who we become. Our experiences emotionally educate us --- for better of for worse --- because our brains are always trying to make sense of things. From this perspective, it is useful to think of psychotherapy as emotional education or re-education. I have 30 years experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist. I work with individuals twenty years old and older, couples and groups. Psychotherapy, in addition to relieving the discomforting or disabling symptoms of anxiety and depression, supports and builds on the strengths of the client so that people can make better use of their abilities, have more fulfilling relationships and learn to face life's challenges with more freedom, flexibility and creativity
