Hello, I'm Maxine Talenfeld, MSW, LCSW. For 40 years I have helped children, teens and adults with depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, relationship conflict, substance abuse, grief, stress & gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues. I treat individuals, couples and families. We've known for some time that the mind and body are intimately connected and maximum benefit occurs when both are focused on. Good nutrition and exercise are important adjuncts to psychotherapy and help by enhancing in mood, strength, flexibility & self-image. A good counselor is non-judgmental, self-aware, compassionate and above all, skilled at focusing on your strengths and helping you maximize them. I use a sliding fee scale based on your financial status, offer evening and weekend appointments and provide a relaxed and supportive environment.

I'm tremendously gratified by helping people overcome obstacles and fulfill their potential. From personal experience I understand that achieving inner peace and learning better coping skills greatly improve the quality of life. It takes facing yourself honestly while treating yourself supportively, the way you'd treat a good friend.

We are feedback loops consisting of thoughts, feelings and behavior. Each influences the other and can occur in any order. For example,if I change my behavior, that changes my feelings & thoughts. The cycle can be interrupted at any point and new coping skills can be substituted for self-defeating ones.
