I work with teens and adults, providing individual counselling and family counselling as needed with teens. I no longer do marriage counselling. Most of my clinical experience has been in the areas of anxiety disorders (including panic attacks, social phobia,OCD),depression, family of origin issues, anger management, low self- esteem, relationship issues, bereavement, stress management. Anxiety/depression show up in my own family history, so I have first-hand knowledge of how these conditions impact lives, and strategies for coping with them. I have also experienced major losses, which has given me a better understanding of grief issues.
I most often use an eclectic approach in my counselling. For example, when treating anxiety/ depression, I use a combination of CBT for negative thinking habits, relaxation training and mindfulness,self-esteem building, creative problem solving, development of personal goals.I try to base my approach on individual client needs.
I work in a small office located in a downtown church building which is cozy and personal, and because I can use this location, I can offer service at lower fees. I do offer a sliding scale fee system to try to accomodate those who have limited financial resources.
