“There is always more to a person than they can be immediately conscious of. There are things we feel or won't feel; do or won't do; and we don't always know why. We are influenced by experiences outside of our immediate awareness. Psychotherapy is a conversation uniquely capable of bringing these experiences into awareness. In the process of speaking out loud to another person, both parties must listen attentively to hear those things that are difficult to say. It is important to be open to the possibility of being surprised by what one can say out loud.
As part of my approach I encourage individuals to pay attention to their dreams and creative efforts. Many people I work with are in the expressive arts. As a faculty member in a training program for future psychotherapists I am committed to the development of psychotherapy as a profession.”
