Mrs. Shataia Brown Whitney

Marriage & Family Therapist , MA , LMFT

(206) 855-5912
Since 1998, I have been working with individuals, couples, and families and treating issues related to: depression, anxiety, communication problems, interpersonal conflict, trauma recovery, military deployment, abortion recovery, adult children of divorced parents, pre-marital counseling, multi-cultural marriage and many other identity/spiritual crises. I see clients on the brink of divorce rediscover their passion for each other, clients merely surviving with depression/anxiety start truly living again, and clients going through the motions find purpose, meaning and fulfillment in their relationships, in their careers and in their lives. Often 10-14 sessions can lead to significant and lasting change.
The therapeutic process begins with assessment of your needs and setting practical goals and timelines for therapy. I often use the enneagram not only as a tool for self-discovery and growth but also as a way to develop insight into the make-up and world-view of those we love.
I derive much of my approach to couples counseling from the decades of research by both John Gottman and Sue Johnson. I work holistically with all clients to understand and address the interplay between their psychological, emotional, physical, spiritual and relational health. Often resolution also comes from processing and grieving past hurts and family drama.
