We cannot always control the situations we find ourselves in but we can choose how to react to them. I believe change comes from vulnerability, respect, and an ability to lean into the uncomfortable. In our work together, I aim to create a safe and nonjudgmental space which will enable you to explore yourself and create the resilience you will need to face adversity. I see challenges as an opportunity for growth and believe one can always learn from mistakes.

Making the decision to seek help can be difficult, and finding the right therapist can be equally overwhelming. My intention is to create a comfortable, and non-judgemental environment to make it easier to start the process of self-exploration. Whatever the road that brought you here, whether you’re navigating depression, wanting to make a change, or anything in between, therapy can offer a space that is yours. Adults from all backgrounds, cultural identities, and belief systems are warmly welcomed. My ideal client is anyone looking to gain self-awareness, insight and healing in their journey.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and from all walks of life. I enjoy helping them find solutions to whatever challenges life is presenting them with. For some people, this may mean that they need only a few sessions, or what I call a"minor tune-up", before they are back on course with their lives. For others, this may mean more in-depth therapy to help find solutions to problems that have persisted over many years. And yet for others, they may not have any problems at all to solve per se.

AYCMARC, (We are open when everyone else is closed) asks you this question: true or false. The only person you can change is your self (surprise! answer). Hi my name is Mark M Miller. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and the founder of at Your Convenience Mental Health and Relationship Counseling of Denver (AYCMARC). The answer to the question is false. Psychology and systems theory show us that any change in the system (family, group or society) changes the system. Therefore a more truthful axiom is the only person you can willingly change is yourself.

Have you ever found yourself wondering who you are? Why you are the way that you are? I like to think of therapy as a place for self-discovery. I'm here to orient and support you during your journey of answering those questions that come from within. Those that might be too scary or confusing to try to answer on your own. My goal is to help you gain insight, self-knowledge, self-awareness, and develop the coping mechanisms you need to manage life stressors effectively. Therapeutic processes are a lot like rollercoasters: You don't know what your experience will be like until you give it a shot.

I believe in people and their ability to make changes in their lives that best serve them, no matter what stage of life they are in. It is an absolute privilege to join clients as they unpack the complex, inner workings of their lives, feelings and beliefs by providing a warm, non-judgmental, genuine and flexible space to do so. My aim is to collaboratively help clients identify and understand patterns in which they feel stuck, find relief from narratives that are no longer serving them, and learn how to move towards a value-driven life feeling empowered.

I address a range of concerns with clients including depression, anxiety, relationships, addiction and trauma. I believe that therapy offers the unique opportunity to work on your relationship with yourself, which consequently improves your relationships with others. I guide clients towards a deeper self-awareness and greater emotional resiliency. In my work, I emphasize the importance of self-compassion and taking a mindful stance towards your thoughts and emotions. When we are able to approach our internal life with curiosity and compassion, life is much easier to navigate, and strong emotion states won't overwhelm us.

Hello and congratulations! It takes true courage to venture out and explore the possibility of change. Change can be scary (our brains are wired that way for our safety!), but it can also be exhilarating. I’m in the business of changing lives and teaching people to thrive. Trained in a wide variety of psychotherapeutic modalities with over 9 years of counseling experience, I’ve helped many, many people learn how to live the life they’ve always dreamed of: to become a fully empowered human.

I view psychotherapy as a process of exploration and affirmation of one's life path, including the experiences and wisdom gained along this journey. This is just the beginning point for the psychotherapeutic process of healing and identifying one's pathway to continue the journey of personal growth, transformation and achieving balance (mind, body & Spirit). I see my role as a therapist as that of a witness and source of support and knowledge, joining with you to help facilitate the individual process of developing a deeper sense of self-awareness, achieving personal growth and transformation: to create the life you want.

Finding your next step can be Confusing, Intimidating, Daunting. Seeking professional assistance for life's many complicated twists is a sign of mature humility. I have heard, "therapy is for broken people" and this could not be farther from the truth. Therapy is a window into a healthier life, ripe with clearer goals and personal accomplishments, more accountability, greater dreams, and significantly more rewarding relationships. TAKING the decision to speak with someone allows access to evidence-based, efficient, effective tools you can use the rest of your life - once you find your meaning and purpose, all else falls into place.

Welcome to my practice, and congratulations on taking the first step towards working on your mental health. I know finding a new therapist isn't easy. Before I tell you about me, let's start with you. If we're going to be a great fit for working together, you're probably a young adult (18-30ish) in CO or MA who is going through some changes. Maybe these changes are starting or finishing college, finding your first "big kid" job, or going through a relationship transition. Or, maybe things are stable, but still not what you want! You're feeling worried, anxious, or depressed. It's super hard, but you don't have to do it alone.

I am passionate about psychology and aim to provide effective assistance for those struggling with mental health. I focus on humanistic, critical, and community psychology and value the importance regarding individuals personal and lived experiences with mental health. I find that the individual’s relationship with their struggles shapes their perception of the experience. I understand that it can be difficult to understand your own struggles at times and I work to assist individuals in understanding this.

Let me guess....you're here because something isn't going the way you hoped, or maybe life is ambiguous and it feels like a lot to handle on your own. Take a deep breath, and allow me the privilege of being curious with you while we figure it out. Sometimes life hits us with a brick. Don't lose faith. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist for more than 15 years. We are the experts on ourselves, but we forget about this when life takes an unexpected turn. There is nothing wrong with you that what's right with you cannot fix. Let's start putting the puzzle pieces together in a different way.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
