I specialize in Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy. This process, whether used alone, or supplemented by my other specialties (including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Imago Couples Therapy), helps us to cultivate a new relationship to situations in daily life. My motto is, "If you can't change the situation, change your relationship TO the situation." My treatment style is client-centered and solution-focused.
A key to my work is a simple technique I call "Present Moment Sensory Reality" (PMSR) in which we disengage from incorrect or upsetting thoughts, and return to the reality of the present moment. PMSR has helped many of my clients deal with anxiety, depression, anger, relationship problems, and addiction.
I have been trained in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for depression and anxiety. I was also involved with the development of Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) for addictive behaviors. I facilitate MBCT and MBRP classes regularly in the Pasadena area, or individually in my South Pasadena office.
