The Best way to describe my services: unconventional. There aren't very many life circumstances that I have not experienced; I do not judge. With me, you have a safe space to explore and delve deep into the person you are now, how you became this person and who you wish to become. What is your dream life? Are your relationships fulfilling? What life do you want for your children? Why haven't you forgiven yourself? Lets talk; revisiting our pain is difficult but, necessary.

How you relate to others is an important part of who you are as a person. While some people feel isolated and alone, others feel stifled and challenged from managing too many close relationships. Many often suffer because they are caught in old patterns of behaving and relating to others. I believe that healing comes from feeling acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness toward yourself. Only then will you be able to direct those same feelings toward others.

When we truly know ourselves, the underlying motivations for our actions, and the subconscious fears that drive us, we can begin to exercise more control over our lives and move towards self-actualization. Mental illness is often defined through a lens of dysfunction, yet, even if we were able to remove all of the dysfunction from one's life, the experience of needing support would still be present for many people. My goal is not only to make sure my clients are functioning at their best, but also that they feel strong, genuine, and intentional while doing it.

"It's a joy to be hidden but a disaster not to be found." - Winnicott. No matter how many times I hear this quote, I would like to hear it again. As a child, I remember playing the game hide-and-seek, having the delight of safety and the excitement of being hidden, followed quickly by a desire to be found and not left alone. We are the same kids, perhaps a little taller, hopefully, a little wiser. We still want our sanctuary, but we also have the desire to be free. I might be the right person to help you feel comfortable enough to be found.

You’ve gotten this far because your behaviors or beliefs provided a sense of safety and self-regulation at one point. Some of them may not work anymore or they’re no longer serving you in the way you want, so let’s work on meeting your needs in a different way. On top of doing trauma work, reframing negative thoughts, and giving you realistic coping skills, I put a large emphasis on educating you so you better understand why you are struggling with the things that cause you distress. I find that providing you with this type of knowledge is a form of empowerment!

As a person whose experiences and identities do not fit neatly into categories, I have encountered the challenges of navigating a society that operates on the assumption that ‘one size fits all’ works for everyone. I strive to create a different kind of space in my therapeutic approach. I view therapy as a collaborative process, recognizing that each unique individual requires different kinds of support, which can change over time. I am a multiracial (half white and half Japanese), cisgender, queer woman, with an immigrant parent and firsthand understanding of the complexities of navigating a multicultural family.

I believe in a strengths-based approach to treatment, which means I start by working to understand who my client is, what their concerns/goals are, and how they can best be approached. This allows me to collaborate with my clients to develop effective coping skills for substance use, anxiety, depression, adjustment to aging, grief, relationship stress and boundary setting, or reactions to trauma. I also have experience with queer populations (LGBTQ+). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania with 10 years of professional experience in nonprofit and an additional 4 years in therapy practice.

Does it feel like life decisions are sometimes, mostly, or always difficult to make? Does it feel like others do not value those life decisions or put you down? Do relationships seem to just fall apart for no apparent reason? Is work-life balance overwhelming and exhaustive? Is it hard to be kind to yourself or even others? Does nothing in life seem to go right no matter how hard you work or try to please others? Do you feel defeated? Are there feelings that have become more difficult to control? Feeling shamed, embarrassed, or disgusted toward yourself? You are now in the right place at the right time to start feeling better!

Welcome! My goal is to create an authentic and welcoming space for individuals, couples and/or partnerships to improve their intimate and sexual lives. My role is to help you (re)discover pleasure, joy, and security in yourself and your relationships. As a therapist trained in Intersystemic therapy, my primary focus is to work within client’s “systems” – that is, your past and present intimate relationships, the family and culture you grew up in, and the other parts of life that make you, you. During sessions, we’ll look into where you are now, how you got there, and what you'd like to see for yourself.

I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Philadelphia?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
