Each and every one of us has learned how to survive in a complex set of circumstances. It is my job to help my clients decide which of those survival skills are still helpful, and which ones served them as a child, and now hurt them in their adult or young adult life. I believe that everyone already has everything within them to heal, and I enjoy challenging clients to see that for themselves. I have years of experience working with adults, children, groups, and families. I specialize in working with complex trauma, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, grief, attachment, anxiety, and depression.

Things have a way of not working out the way they we thought they would. The stories of our lives begin in the families we are given with all of their foibles and experiences. Pages that become chapters of pain, trauma or loss can engulf the one that feels trapped in the narrative. After a plot twist of epic proportions, I left a 16-year career in the intelligence community and began a new chapter. I’ve had to confront the sources, rewrite the narrative, consult the author and find myself in the pages. The refinement process can be a horrific one but in the truth, freedom is found. Together, we can find healing.

I have been practicing for over 15 years and see patients with a wide range of concerns and struggles. I specialize in treating eating disorders, trauma, and related issues in adults and teens. I understand that it can be difficult to seek help; therefore, I highly value establishing safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship, and allowing each patient a unique path to health and healing. I also work to collaborate with a treatment team, such as physicians and dietitians, when physical or medical issues need to be addressed.

Ideally, I'd treat clients with a trauma history. Someone with a mixture of short and long term trauma. My ideal client is eager to learn and wants to find a way to become their own safe space. Someone who wants to learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, find out their triggers, and treat themselves with patience.

Making a change starts with admitting that the current way of doing things just isn’t working. Next is having the courage to ask for help. We can’t stop challenges from coming our way, but we can change how we choose to handle them. Leaving one’s comfort zone & accepting responsibility for one’s choices, thoughts & emotions can be difficult. This is where connecting with the right therapist is crucial. Key indicators for successful therapy outcomes include a strong bond with your therapist & committing to making a change. As a therapist, I create a safe, nurturing, nonjudgmental environment in which clients can thrive.

Accepting New Clients! EMDR Intensives now available! Holding space for millennial women to let go of perfectionism, stop people-pleasing, and heal from the past. You feel stuck reliving the past and un-loveable despite "knowing" that you are enough. You've done therapy before but found yourself feeling worse. Does this sound familiar? It's not all in your head. Trauma impacts our perspective and causes us to the see the present through the eyes of the past. This can impact everything from our relationships with friends, to sleep and our performance at work. However, healing is possible if we know how to go about healing it.

So many people feel misunderstood, isolated, afraid, angry, or depressed. Many have experienced things that cause them pain or deep confusion. I believe that providing a comfortable, nonjudgmental place can be the beginning of relief from this pain. I also believe it can be important to go beyond this and provide specialized treatment that addresses my clients' unique needs. I have worked for several years with adolescents, men, and others who oftentimes do not feel heard. I see change happen everyday; if it might be time for change or healing in your life contact me and let's get started.

"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." (Viktor Frankl) Many of those I work with are dealing with issues of grief and loss. Others suffer from addictions and desire to embark on a recovery path, or love someone with addictions and need to learn how to take care of themselves. Many are journeying through resolving trauma, anxiety, stress or depression issues. Regardless of your pain, I am invested in your growth, emotional freedom and creating your wellness plan.

All people deserve to be valued, no matter their age, ability, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. They should also have the freedom to choose how they experience life. There is no one perfect way to live. People come to therapy with various life experiences and levels of understanding, that is why there is not a one size fits all approach. Your journey is your own. As your therapist, my goal is to provide you with a safe, affirming, and empowering space. This means that I will treat you with unconditional positive regard, congruence and empathy. I believe that every person deserves these things on a human level.

Whether you're going through a life transition, experiencing something difficult (externally or internally), or want someone you can bounce thoughts, feelings, and ideas off of, I'm here for it. When we take the intentional time to look at how whatever is going on for you is impacting your mental, emotional, physical, and relational health, and how that might be preventing you from reaching your goals, we can not only gain a lot from the therapy process, but also enjoy it. We can work together to talk it through, break down barriers, generate insight, and create positive change in a supportive environment.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
