My ideal client is one seeking to find their own personal identity. I use a combination of theoretical approaches to accommodate the specific needs for each client. I always start with a client centered approach to build a trusting relationship. Once that is established I move into a psychoanalytic approach (counselor and client work to understand the inner life of the client through deep exploration of unconscious and past experiences). Once connections from the past and present are acknowledged, and understood, I end therapy using a reality based approach (focusing on the things in life we can control).
If I had to choose one specialty it would be counseling clients through transitions. IE: College to Real World, Married to Single, Kids going through divorce, Blended families, Grieving the loss of a loved one, Change of career...etc. The diagnosis I mainly treat is adjustment disorder with mixed moods of depression and/or anxiety.
I taught Deaf children for 3-4 years. I was then a School Counselor for 7 years before finishing my License as a Professional Counselor. I then opened my private practice and contracted out as a clinical psychotherapist in the hospital setting working in collaboration with doctors. I now solely work out of my Mt. Pleasant office or via tele-therapy.
