Kelly Desousa

Art Therapist , MS

(904) 647-4476
I am an art therapist based out of Jacksonville, FL who specializes in autism and related disabilities. My strengths include working with children who have severe behavioral and/or emotional difficulties or those on the spectrum who are also nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities. I have found that, after building a trusting relationship with clients in my unique safe, supportive, and fun environment, incredible breakthroughs can be made through the creative process of art making.
Because every child is different, there is no "one-size-fits-all" treatment for children with autism. Art-based interventions provide flexibility because art directives and materials can be adapted to fit children's individual needs, enabling the art therapist can meet the child at his or her own level.
Common goals for children with autism that can be addressed through art therapy include: increasing imagination and abstract thinking skills; increasing sensory regulation and sensory integration; improving emotional regulation Increasing self-expression; encouraging developmental progress; learning leisure skills; improving visual-spatial and motor skills; and improving social and communication skills.
