Kelly Desousa

Art Therapist , MS

(904) 647-4476
I'm an art therapist and specialize in working with individuals with autism, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD and anxiety disorders. My holistic approach addresses challenges through the creative process, parenting support, and developmentally appropriate mindfulness practices. I am inspired by my clients every day.
Think you're not an "artist"? You are an artist; stick figures and scribbling are valid forms of art. No verbal communication? No problem; speaking is optional. Art-based interventions provide a unique flexibility in that art directives and materials can be adapted to for varying needs and abilities.
Positive Space Therapy celebrates neurodiversity and focuses on empowering individuals with autism and the ones who love them. We also provide consulting services for parents and professionals. Design your healing at www.positivespacetherapy.com.

Asperger's Teen Social Support Group

Puzzle Peace Counseling is starting a peer-lead art therapy support group for teens with Asperger Syndrome. Through the creative art making process and peer support, we will work together on developing coping strategies, discuss self-care, and learn to build friendships. We will embark on a journey to embrace our strengths and celebrate our unique differences as individuals with Asperger Syndrome. This group will be lead by art therapist, Kelly DeSousa, MS, who is also on the spectrum.

Special Sibling Art Therapy Groups

Kelly DeSousa is offering two separate groups designed for ages 8-12 and 13-17. Both groups will give siblings of children with special needs the opportunity to relate to one another in a safe and supportive environment using art as a medium for creative self-expression. These are small groups and space is extremely limited, so reserve your child's space early! Topics to be explored will include: 1) Self esteem: what makes me special 2) Family relationships: my family and me 3) Understanding special needs: empathy development 4) Self care + coping: how to be kind to myself.
