At Youth Outreach Intervention Center, we believe that children are the very essence of the future. Who they are tomorrow is essentially the outcome of how they are raised and nurtured today. My focus is to help clients find hope again and heal with peace in their minds. Depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, trauma and relationship issues can hinder your growth and success. I'll walk alongside of you and utilize appropriate therapy methods in tandem with Biblical principles and Christian faith for a time we determine as appropriate for you. I always hope to provide you a safe space for processing distress and to provide relevant tools you can use for progress. We will work together and customize a treatment plan that fits your personal therapy goals.

I work primarily with adolescents and adults. I believe people, at different points in their lives, may need support overcoming hurdles or may just be feeling "stuck." I enjoy working with clients who have concerns in many areas, including depression, relationships, identity, adjustment, anxiety and worry, stress and life management, or family concerns. I value my work as a psychologist and approach each client with respect for their own unique identity and the concerns they seek therapy for.

It is my deep belief that we each strive to be our best selves. This journey can be difficult and requires that we are able to recognize our own personal strengths and values. Clients should see the results of therapy in a measurable amount of time. This belief is where I begin treatment with the clients presenting problem guiding services.

Have you found yourself overwhelmed by the stress and changes of everyday life? Or perhaps you find yourself facing a major transition in life and are unsure of your next steps. Maybe you are finding it difficult to find balance in your life with all of its demands and expectations. You may have even had a negative experience with therapy in the past because you didn't feel heard or understood. Perhaps you are just looking for a supportive ear and a therapist willing to co-journey with you while you determine the right path for you.

Clients typically approach me when they have experienced trauma (single incident or complex, recent or past) or are experiencing concerns related to the perinatal time period. This includes anxiety, depression, miscarriage, birth trauma, infertility, guilt, and overwhelm. I work best with clients who are looking to explore the deeper root of their problems rather than only the symptoms. I also identify as Christian. I can incorporate faith into counseling upon a client's request; however, I work with clients from a variety of belief systems and only include clients' spiritual or religious beliefs when requested and appropriate.

Let's work through this. Everyone has the capacity for change. Sometimes it is difficult to see how that change can happen and it leaves us feeling stuck. There is no single way to go through life and that means that different treatments will work for different people. Everyone deserves a safe place in therapy.

My ideal client is focused upon personal growth and healing. Someone who looks at their barriers, but also utilizes their strengths to overcome or minimize those barriers. My ideal client understands at times we all need help, and simply want someone to walk beside them on their journey. One of the most challenging things you may be faced with is trying to understand why you are the way you are, or why you behave the way you do. Instead, I want you to stop looking at your faults, your mistakes, the "what if's" and remember, one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story.

I am a pediatric psychologist with 25 years experience in the field of mental health, having worked exclusively with children and teens for the past 20 years. I have experience in treating a wide range of problems, but I am especially skilled in working with those who are neurodivergent (ASD, ADHD) as well as children who struggle with anxiety, OCD, social delays and sensory issues. I will work with you and your child to help clarify goals for treatment. I believe that treatment should be individualized to the needs of both the client and the family, that uniqueness should be celebrated and that strengths should be built upon.

I use Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients cope with a myriad of things, include chronic issues, as they both teach coping skills and aid in adapting to situations that are immutable. ACT helps clients learn how to cope with difficult emotions: once a client is able to process the idea that thoughts and feelings are affected by the events they experience, the people they meet and the environment they live in, they are better able to learn how to manage emotions and situations. Using ACT and CBT we are able to work together to identify and then challenge these thought patterns.

I have a great deal of experience working with people who have chronic illness, depression, anxiety and co-dependency. I work with many people who are the caregivers to their families. I’ve observed that caregivers are often wonderful about taking care of everyone except themselves. As a therapist I will help you prioritize self care. I will support you in setting limits and boundaries and keeping that backbone when then temptation is to please others at your own expense. It is OK to say “No”. It is OK to put yourself first for a change. It is important that you feel seen and heard. Your feelings matter.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Louisville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
