I am a CERTIFIED IMAGO RELATIONSHIP THERAPIST. I specialize in relationship work, and my style is collaborative. My experiences working with individuals facing addiction, mental health, and crises have been eye-opening and transformative. I have witnessed firsthand the pain, despair, and feelings of hopelessness that individuals in crisis experience. However, I have also seen the incredible resilience and strength that individuals possess when provided with the right support and resources. It is this resilience that fuels my determination to make a difference and offer a helping hand to those in need. I am deeply committed to the principles of empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental support in my work.

It's hard to find a therapist. Especially when you're not feeling your best. I applaud you for getting this far. Now it's time to invest in your relationship with yourself. I know what it’s like to feel alone with your problems. Maybe you have no one to talk to. Or maybe you feel bad making your friends, your family, or your partner listen to your problems again. I know what that feels like, and I’m here. I’m ready to listen. It’s time to let go of anxiety, sadness, frustration, anger, and shame. I want to process these things with you. You don’t have to go through this alone anymore.

There are many presenting issues that might bring you to counseling. Finding a therapist that you can connect with and build an alliance with is important to your success in therapy. I work very hard to create a relationship that will provide you the safety and warmth that you need to explore your experiences; I am very comfortable earning your trust. I use different treatment modalities, depending upon which is appropriate for you personally. Empathy is the primary tool used to give you the safety you need to explore your inner world while we begin to understand your experiences together.

My ideal client grapples with anxiety, trauma, or addictions. They span across all age groups, from adolescents to the elderly. At the core of their struggle is a fervent desire for serenity and self-acceptance. Their ultimate goal isn't just to find relief but to also embrace transformative change. They're actively seeking not just a momentary reprieve but a sustained peace, and with the right guidance, they aspire to cultivate a life of calm and understanding.

Counseling provides an opportunity for people to explore areas of their lives and relationships that may feel dissatisfying, difficult, or even painful. It takes courage for us to look at parts of ourselves and our relationships that are troubling, especially when we're not sure exactly where to begin or what's not feeling quite right. Therapy is a journey, a path toward developing a connection to our own deepest knowing and inner strengths. With increased awareness and internal supports, we feel more hope, strength and freedom to live as fully as possible.

Welcome. You may be noticing changes or experiences that feel hard, or harder than before. This might be affecting you in different ways - with your happiness, with relationships, with work. You may notice some emotions and thoughts about others, about yourself, about your ability to do things, that cause you to feel stuck, down, anxious, angry, in pain, overwhelmed. You may be in transition in any number of ways and need someone to help you sort it all out.

I firmly believe that everyone has within them what they need to overcome their problems, achieve their goals, and improve their lives. Sometimes, we just need some support to help us figure out who we are and what is important to us to bring about change. I strive to be a warm and caring therapist who will meet you with authenticity and “realness.” I work to strike a balance between curiosity, compassion, and challenge to establish a safe space for you to honestly explore yourself and your struggles, sit with unpleasant feelings, and develop trust in your ability to make decisions consistent with your values.

In my practice, I work with adults and children ages 4-18 who are experiencing or have experienced trauma (PTSD) or unresolved grief in their lives. Trauma can affect relationships, friendships, marriages and parenting. It can significantly impact how we cope from day to day. Unfortunately, such issues that have been ignored may keep coming up and can haunt us at the most inopportune times. I am continually amazed at how resilient the human mind and spirit can be with just some intentional focus on those areas of life.

I believe that everyone deserves to make and enjoy music. We all deserve meaningful music experiences all the way to the end of life, no matter what cognitive or physical limitations might be getting in the way. That's why we provide home-based and teletherapy music therapy services for older adults and their caregivers - to bring the benefits of music to older adults who may struggle to get out of the house for therapy services.

Why is it so hard to break the cycle of depression, anxiety, codependency, and unhealthy relationships? Because these cycles are addictive like drugs and most people are not ready to face the withdrawal symptoms like core loneliness and guilt, and succumb to their old patterns. You might even experience symptoms of PTSD after leaving toxic situation/relationships. In order to heal, it's important that you receive guidance and support from a trained professional.

Sometimes we experience life changing events that cause us lose sight of our hopes and dreams. Our fears can deceive us into believing that we will never be okay again. We do not have to be defined by what has happened to us. I believe that no matter what we have been through we have the potential to create for ourselves, a happy, rich and full life worth living. It is not easy to overcome the bad experiences but it is possible. Therapy can increase psychological flexibility and allow us to not be open again. If you are tired of being limited and ready to make real changes therapy can help you create the life you wish to have.

Do you spend all of your energy focusing on other people's feelings or opinions that it feels impossible to consider your own feelings and needs? Is your goal to make sure everyone else is happy even if it means there's no time or space for you? So many parts of you have been working hard for so long. Together, we can begin working towards experiencing yourself and your relationships as life-giving and authentic instead of draining. You deserve this.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Kansas City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
