There is not a specific type of therapeutic style or approach that works for everyone: age, ethnicity, all of this may play a part into stressors and how we cope with them. Therefore, the services are built around the individuals or family needs, focusing on strengths and values. I believe there is nothing we can’t overcome and the first step is seeking the help. Therapy is about acquiring the tools we need when faced with adversity. If you’re reading this, then you’re already on your way to change. Life is full of challenges, struggles, and stressful situations. WE have all been there before.

I take a very down-to-earth approach to counseling. By focusing on what is real and the truth of one's experiences, I encourage my clients to participate in their own recovery processes and to develop new behaviors that produce new results and better solutions. It is my personal belief that as a society we have developed a dysfunctional lifestyle based on fantasy and myth. We act on these false beliefs every day, keeping us stuck in old, immature patterns of reactionary behavior, instead of responding to life's challenges as adults.

You're not a cookie, and I am not a cookie-cutter therapist. Every person is unique, and my counseling approach is very much tailored to your specific needs. For most people, counseling may be a last resort, one final effort after they’ve tried everything else. Some worry that seeking therapy means they’ve failed; and for others, the idea of therapy is just plain scary or not the way they were “taught to deal with things”. Even so, the fact that you’re reading this means you want to take back control and begin creating the life you really want. Well, you’ve come to the right place!

I believe one of the bravest things that you can do is to begin to understand your own story and prioritize your mental health healing journey. You deserve to live a life that leaves you excited to wake up every morning. In therapy, my goal is to cultivate an environment where you will feel safe to heal from all the emotional wounds and pain you've been carrying around. Calling a therapist can be an intimidating thing to do but I hope you take a moment to pick up the phone and see how I can help.

Do you want to train your mind to be better in what you do? What I do is not therapy - it is mental coaching and I specialize in training youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes & performers. With an MA in Sport Psychology, an MBA, and extensive athletic experience I blend academic knowledge of psychological research with the dynamic and relatable approach of a sport coach to maximize you or your child's physical skills. Challenges my clients face include lack of confidence, inability to perform under pressure, "choking" aka "the yips", lack of motivation, inability to focus, fear of failure, and many others.

Life is beautiful and it's also inherently challenging. At times, we worry too much, have difficulty maintaining relationships, get stuck in the past, and struggle to cope with daily life. We also experience intense grief and devastating losses. I can be a sounding board to help you find your path and your passion for life, thereby becoming the best version of yourself.

Whether you are at the dinner table with your family, sitting next to your partner on the couch, or in an office full of coworkers, feeling unnoticed and unheard is a painful experience. Our relationships should be a source of empowerment, safety, and comfort. Not a source of chronic anxiety, stress, and grief. Whether it is the relationship you have with yourself, your spouse, partner, child, parent, or co-parent you are looking to heal and improve, with some fine tuning, we can build upon the skills and strengths you already have to create more meaningful and positive interactions in your everyday life and relationships.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, stuck or unsure of who you can talk to? These days, many people who have never struggled, or who have had ups and downs, are finding themselves to be in greater need of having a supportive sounding board. Primarily utilizing a cognitive behavioral approach, I focus on finding solutions for goals identified together in therapy, within a supportive, non-judgmental space. I work exclusively with individual adults, ages 18 and up.

My practice has evolved into helping clients who are or have experienced traumatic events that are causing problems in the present. Through my experience, I have discovered that traumatic events appear to be the point of origin relating to dysfunctional relationships and ineffective coping skills. Often unsatisfied relationships began in childhood with a significant caregiver from whom we never felt fully accepted or unconditional love. We go through life with an unfulfilled need to connect with others & our basic need to belong. Instead of contentment we feel that something is missing resulting in a void.

I believe that most people have the ability to overcome their obstacles; however, certain challenges warrant the assistance of a licensed professional counselor. I establish a trusting, professional, therapeutic relationship, which promotes safety and openness. Like a gardener, I cultivate care, empower growth, nurture the root, help restore life, and foster an environment for thriving. I work collaboratively with my clients to promote self-awareness and personal growth. I help clients identify, manage, and improve their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, by integrating approaches in which the client is an active participant.

I approach therapy with the ideology that life is a culmination of interconnected parts. Feelings stem from experiences, experiences influence perceptions, and subsequently guide many of the decisions one makes in life. When individuals experience stagnation or challenges, it may be connected to an array of life experiences. This may lead to a challenge with seeing beyond that which is. The subsequent result may serve as a breeding ground for emotional and physical pain, challenges in interpersonal relationships and unresolved grief.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dallas?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
