I am passionate about helping people make sense of their lives in complicated times. I am an actively involved psychotherapist. I believe in developing a strongly collaborative relationship. With mutual curiosity, we can explore meaningful ways to find relief and make lasting, positive changes. I do psychotherapy with children, teens, families, and adults in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and in Japanese. I also do psychological evaluations for Attention Deficit Disorder.

I Have A Wait List Right Now... Are you ready for a change? Any kind of change? Whether it be learning some new coping skills or learning to unpack years of childhood trauma, therapy is the place to start once you admit that you are ready. Or maybe you have always felt disconnected in the way that you think about things, process information, and connect with others. Have you wondered if you are ADHD, Autistic, or just somewhere under the neurodivergent umbrella? Let's talk about it.

Many of us see our own upbringing as “it wasn’t that bad.” And yet our current choices and reactions reflect back to us patterns of deep wounding. Generational trauma, family shame, parental caretaking, and distorted expectations all have deep impacts on our journey to discovering and living our true self. Black Sheep Healing works with people who realize that there can be another way. This is for people who are having a human response to an inhumane world.

I'm glad you are looking into counseling, it can take awhile to find the right therapist but its worth it. Are you struggling to balance your responsibilities and still find joy? Are depression, anxiety, the past, and or the future all getting in the way of you living the life you want in this present moment? Otherwise know as the human condition. We all have times when we need to explore and shift patterns and perspectives, and therapy is a great way to make these changes.

Growth, healing, and change. It is my privilege and joy to work with clients to achieve these in their lives. We begin by building trust, exploring together, developing new insights, taking meaningful action, then sustaining new ways of being. I use mindfulness and nature to help clients, which can be done indoors or out. Similarly, looking at clients' internal parts, relational dynamics, and cognitions can help with transition, trauma, stagnation, depression, and more. I work to restore clients' sense of harmonious connection. I work with ages 7 and up.

I hold the belief that positive change is possible when we are supported in identifying and harnessing strengths and building the capacity to understand ourselves more deeply and compassionately. Therapy begins with building a deep understanding of client experiences and hopes for counseling and collaborating to build a beneficial approach. I have experience providing mental health counseling for a wide range of clients and presenting issues since 2012. In addition to individual treatment, I have completed Gottman level II training to provide evidenced-based couple's counseling.

It's become a struggle to express your needs to the people you love. Some days, it feels like you are repeating the same conversation or argument over and over again. You feel stuck and vulnerable. I understand what you are going through. Relationships can be challenging, with twists and turns that create anxiety, confusion, and discouragement. This may not be what you expected and it can be difficult to remember what it’s like to feel excited and satisfied. I want to help you find the way back to a more fulfilling and healthier relationship. There is a way forward.

I want your therapy experience to be a safe place to explore your life, your problems, and your dreams. Thoreau's quotation says it for me: "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Your issues may be small or large. My commitment to you is to respect you as an individual and to really listen to you.

In holding the Eastern-based philosophy that sees every human as inherently whole and brilliantly sane, I believe that every pain we carry--at its source--shares the wisdom of how to heal it. Supporting you in connecting more directly to your experience, to inhabit your body, and compassionately navigate the sometimes complex layers of this space can allow for reintegration of parts of yourself you may have lost connection to. In reconciliation of one's whole being--there is often a naming and reclaiming of our lived experience that needs to happen for greater alignment to occur within ourselves and within our relationships.

Trauma & abuse can cause us to feel isolated, out-of-control, and lost in our own lives. The resultant suffering & mental illnesses significantly disrupt our relationships, life satisfaction, and sense of self. These painful experiences can cause a disconnect between the four aspects of our being – mind, body, emotion, and spirit. Therapy offers a space in which you can understand this disconnection, re-story your experience, reintegrate these parts of yourself, and heal. In our work together, we will honor your experiences and help you find what you need to live a more authentic, empowered, and enriching life.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bellingham?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
