I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and board certified art therapist with over 25 years experience in outpatient and school settings. While my practice does include adults dealing with life changes, loss, and issues with mental illness, I have focused most of my work with children/adolescents and their families. I take a practical, goal-focused and client-centered approach to counseling. I have experience with issues related to mental health disorders including mood, anxiety, attention/focus, impulse control/hyperactivity, developmental delays, autism spectrum issues.
I also work with behavioral and emotional patterns that appear related to stress in the home, school or community. I have worked closely with youth and family as they take on issues related to grief and loss, gender/sexual identity, bullying/peer conflicts and significant changes in the family.
While I am an art therapist, no one is ever expected to do art during counseling sessions, but the invitation is always there. Regardless of age, art interventions can help individuals increase insight, express and/or contain difficult feelings, and gain a sense of control over parts of one's life that have felt unmanageable.
