Sometimes life presents us with challenges that are too overwhelming to navigate on our own. This is when therapy may be helpful. In my therapeutic practice I strive to provide my clients with a safe and supportive environment in which the individual may explore the difficulties and challenges confronting them.

I enjoy working with clients who demonstrate motivation, whether or not they have already defined their goals for therapy. With training in counseling and behavioral medicine, I welcome individuals from late adolescence through adulthood, especially those wishing to discuss cultural--including LGBTQ+--identities, chronic illness, anxiety, ADHD, and parenting concerns. I realize that people have different feelings about mental health for legitimate reasons. I invite you to explore those concerns with me in a supportive environment, free from judgment. Coming from a Multicultural lens, I recognize that you are the expert of your life.

Why do I need therapy? Therapy is for people who are crazy or out of control! I should be able to do this by myself! Asking or getting help means I'm not capable or strong. People are in therapy "cause they have to be." Couple's therapy is a last resort. Family therapy doesn't work/is not for me. Are any of these questions going through your mind? Is it helpful to know you are not alone? Sometimes, people are apprehensive about engaging in therapy or leery about continuing with therapy. All of the above reactions are understandable considering people's experiences. Licensure supervision/professional consultations offered.

Your willpower alone isn't working. And you keep beating yourself up because you feel like a failure. But it's very difficult to will yourself to get over a fear, or exercise more, or stop worrying so much, or motivate yourself to change any habit. And nearly impossible to will away chronic pain, or intrusive thoughts. Your conscious mind --where your willpower is -- constitutes only about 10% of your mental capacity. Your subconscious mind controls 90%, and has an unlimited supply of resources. Hypnosis and mindfulness meditation give you better access to your subconscious, making change so much easier.

A major downfall in today’s fast-paced society is that many people feel unheard or unseen. Due to the constant need to conform and keep up, people don't have the time or the opportunity to discover who they are and what they want out of life. This leads to anxiety, stress, depression, issues in relationship, confusion, and low self-esteem. I strive to create a safe environment, free of judgement and negativity, and give my clients the opportunity for self-exploration. By giving them my full attention, they feel heard, validated, and encouraged to pursue their greatest desires according to their own beliefs, and new found aspiration.

It is common to hear that people experience the same patterns over and over again, with diagnoses or disorders that have been affecting behaviors or ways of living that just don't feel right. They want to change them, but don't know how. It is often common to hear "I don't feel comfortable in my own skin or I just want to change my life." Holistic counseling invites traditional, modern, post-modern, eastern and western philosophies to help people understand and change the way they think and feel mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a stress-free existence? To be able to put every worry and sadness aside? Unfortunately, no one possesses that sort of magic, what we can do is make a meaningful life where we can reduce stress, sadness, and worry and engage in the things that make this life meaningful with therapy. Too many of us are stuck wondering how to calm our brains, find our place, and feel good about who we are. If this describes you I hope I can be of service.

We all get stuck sometimes. We can find ourselves caught in intense and confusing emotions, and aren't sure how to handle them. Although these feelings can be painful, the truth is that there are stories connected to them, and telling our stories, in time, can produce remarkable change. I offer a calm, supportive setting that allows you to be heard, share your feelings and experiences, and discover new options to live a happier, more balanced life.

It’s 7am. You have only slept three hours, thoughts bouncing in your mind and a feeling of dread in your stomach. Or maybe your legs feel like cement, as though you’re walking through mud each day in a fog. Or maybe you simply feel spread thin, drained, too much happening all at once and the wave of it is making it hard to swim. My mission is to create a collaborative and healing space for you, one that allows you to learn skills that support your therapeutic goals - and helps you ride the waves that life throws your way.

I'm a holistic, trauma-informed therapist and I'd like to help you take good care of your mental health. Do you have anxiety? Racing thoughts? When our nervous systems are in fight/flight/freeze/fawn it can trigger anxiety, avoidance, dissociation or anger. We may feel 'stuck.' We may have the urge to put the needs of others before our own needs. We may be constantly on the go and unable to relax. We may have trouble setting boundaries. We may over-use substances, food or social media. We may struggle to live authentically in harmony with our core values. Over time, we may develop symptoms of depression.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Providence?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
