We all have many layers of past experience that affect our present feelings, self-worth and relationships. Therapy is a unique experience where we can explore these connections, develop greater self-awareness and make meaningful changes. I work closely with my clients to help them develop more self-agency and compassion, so that they can address their current circumstances and move forward with a greater sense of meaning, clarity and purpose. I have a genuine interest in how people have developed their personal and relational patterns and I look forward to hearing your story and helping you make positive changes in your life.

If you are a person of color (POC), in the LGBTQ community, and/or are non-monogamous/poly, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations for over 15 years. In working with a culturally competent therapist like me, you can focus on what brought you to therapy in the first place and not on explaining or “teaching” the nuances of your culture and sexuality. My expertise is in helping those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I’m trained in EMDR, an evidence-based therapy that treats trauma and other difficulties.

As our lives continue to unfold during these challenging times I’m available to provide you with a collaborative and judgment-free zone that sets aside the time and space you need to be able to heal and grow. I’m a warm, spirited, and patient therapist whose goal is to enable people to find more balance and joy in their lives.

The relationship between therapist and client transcends the therapeutic space and changes the way we move through the world and engage with each interpersonal relationship. My hope is to bring each client’s inner self to a place of joy, playfulness and aliveness. My approach with clients is grounded in continued assurance of a safe environment, a foundation to the magic of healing.  Healing begins with curiosity, imagination, creative exploration and collaboration into the pain and suffering of the human experience. My integrative approach incorporates somatic based practices, sitting with what is, and befriending the body.

When we are feeling depressed, anxious, frustrated or stagnant, that’s a signal that something is pinching us off from our natural wellbeing. What is that thing or things? Psychotherapy is one pathway to understanding. Through therapeutic conversation, we will explore different ideas and experiment with new thoughts & behaviors to unpinch ourselves and allow our natural wellbeing to flow. And, as we feel increased satisfaction about our life, we are open to increased satisfaction in our relationships, work and future.

Creating our own path in life can bring upon a wide range of experiences and feelings. We can encounter smooth and stable processes as much as we can find ourselves experiencing challenges and disruption with difficulty understanding how to navigate forward. It is during these challenging times we often find changes in our mood (anxiety, depression), shifts in our relationships, or questions about our career and plans for the future. It is important to understand who we are, what we are feeling and thinking, and how to translate that into a meaningful path forward that resonates within.

Do you find it difficult turning off worry and find yourself catasthrophizing every worst case scenario? Do you often worry about your health or feel that some undisclosed illness is affecting your body? Are you finding it difficult to relax or seem to work more than usual? Did covid or a medical experience leave you fearful now of developing a terminal illness? Did you fear dying either from Covid or the vaccine as we did not know enough about either? Having myself struggled with crippling worry and low level depression, I know what its like to feel 'stuck' and loose HOPE.

We are each on our own path, and it is through our relationships and experiences with self, others, and the world around us that we begin to grow and heal. Life can hold us back from engaging in the change we want to see. Whatever difficulties you may be experiencing, whether it be generational trauma, issues with attachment, struggling with depression, your spirituality, or any other distressing experience, I will walk the path with you, as I believe healing is a journey in which you do not have to walk alone.

After practicing psychotherapy for seventeen years at UCLA and Cornell University, I've come to realize that as human beings, we make the most change when we're able to harness the power of positive thinking and doing. A positive mind leads to resilience, self-confidence, and sustained happiness. Contrary to what you may believe, ordinary people like you and me can learn positive psychology. It isn't as hard as you think because we're born with the ability to heal ourselves and succeed in life. It's something to experience and discover for yourself. Happiness IS possible.

Life gets difficult. -Our distress may make us uncomfortable, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, sad and/or depressed. -Maybe we experienced a job loss, have to move, had a significant relationship end, or experienced a major shift, change, or transition in our life. -Really, we want to feel "better" and "happier", but how do we get there? Short-term counseling or coaching can help and sometimes we needed to address deeper issues and patterns through psychotherapy. Each of us is different, but maybe you found your way here because you are ready to let go, ready to grow, and ready for something new, different, and better for your life.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
