Wanting to make a change in your life, however big or small, can be a very difficult but important realization. Working through options, concerns, and even generating new possibilities in a caring, confidential, nonjudgmental environment are all part of the therapy process. There are always choices and even the seemingly roughest of situations can always be managed. It can be a very exciting and rewarding journey that I have seen countless times and am privileged to be a part of. I have had extensive experience in substance abuse, anxiety/ depression, and relationship/ family issues as well as other life challenges.

My treatment approach is to partner with my clients in setting goals for therapy and to collaborate with them to achieve those goals. Together we will explore the challenges that may be holding you back and blocking your progress toward leading a happier, more fulfilled life. While working together, we will explore the effects of thoughts, beliefs, physical health, past experience, and the environment on a person’s mental well-being. I use the most recent researched methods and draw from various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavior, person-centered, trauma focused, solution-focused, and strengths-based methods.

Finding a therapist can be an overwhelming task. You don't want to pick some name off a list. If you are looking for help, you might feel at the end of your rope, you don't know what else to do, like nobody understands or "gets" you, or that you need some simple guidance. We can help. Therapy isn't magic. Most people intellectually know what they need to do, they just need guidance, encouragement, or new skills to get there.

Do you feel stuck? That something is missing but you're not sure what? How about that you know what's missing and it's being true to who you are? Throughout the years of experience that I have working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults I have learned that at the basis of all of our life experiences, we all wish to be heard, accepted, and to feel connected to ourselves, others, and our emotions. By being in a safe therapeutic relationship that accepts you as you are, you are able to unburden the heaviness that you've been carrying and with this new feeling of relief, there is hope for something new and healing.

It usually takes couples about 6 years to get help for problems in their relationship or marriage. While there are many reasons for that, it is a long time to be unhappy. Life doesn’t offer us training for maintaining happiness alongside another person. Couples/marriage counseling works, even after infidelity. Sexual and intimate issues are also common but difficult to discuss. I have many years of experience and training regarding these life experiences. I create a safe and comfortable environment for addressing them. For individuals, I deal with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, sexuality, and recovery from addiction.

Life on Life's Terms! Learning to laugh at one's self is often a great start while developing the skills to manage the stress, anxiety and struggles of everyday life. In working with a therapist engagement is the most important aspect of the therapeutic relationship.

“What if this doesn’t work out?” “Why did I say the wrong thing?” “It’s never going to get better.” Whether it’s uneasiness about a new job, a break up, or, say, a global pandemic leading us to spend more alone time than ever before, when an opportunity for anxiety presents itself, our thoughts can run worryingly rampant. While it may seem impossible in the moment, you have the strength to control how these thoughts influence your feelings before they turn into actions. Sometimes all you need is a hand.

My ideal client believes the following: If you stay the course and you believe in yourself, take it one day at a time. There is going to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe we can learn coping skills that will enable us to follow our path and to find a more resilient and fulfilling life.

Not accepting new clients
As of 10/9/2023, I am not accepting new clients. I will update this profile when new client openings are available. I believe that my role as a clinician is to facilitate a safe and empowering therapeutic environment, which allows clients to explore thought and behavior patterns that may no longer be serving them. Through education and individualized interventions, I work together with my clients to support them in developing the skills needed to reach their self-identified goals for healing and peace. Although we cannot experience peace in every moment, everyone deserves to experience moments of peace.

How can I find a therapist in Ocean?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
