As a counselor with more than twenty years experience in both clinical and private practice settings, my goal is to provide you with a safe, comfortable and secure environment where, together, we will identify your counseling needs. Adult clients find my supportive, practical, holistic approach helpful in gaining understanding and insight into themselves and others. With this new understanding comes positive change. I use a variety of therapy techniques, including cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, relational, coping skill building, and anxiety reduction.
Improving the symptoms of depression and anxiety requires developing the ability to consider how thoughts and emotions affect what we do and believe about ourselves and others. I often suggest activities to be done between sessions such as making observations about yourself, participating in activities with your partner or making small activity-related changes.
In addition, I have trained with and been certified by Peggy Huddleston of Boston, Massachusetts to provide "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" sessions for clients who are anticipating surgery. Using visualization and relaxation techniques, I help you achieve a sense of calmness and the expectation of a positive recovery as you prepare for medical procedures.
